Lou, with friends Warren and Greg, give their opinion of Fortaleza's Lot 100 Blanco. (Video review.)
Instead of sampling tequila in its birthplace, I reached out to six of the top tequila experts in Mexico to unearth their favorites.
Fortaleza Blanco is one of those tequilas that we will never run out of because we are constantly stockpiling it. And the reason for that is simple—it’s delicious and authentic. With butter, citrus and olive aromas, and a rich mouthfeel, what’s not to lov
When it comes to tequila, the basic choice is simple: 100% agave, or not 100% agave. Of course, this is like saying that when it comes to music, there’s Mozart or there’s a guy named Steve-O playing the kazoo version of Eine kleine Nachtmusik alone in a b
This is just a superb tequila from top to bottom. From the bottle, to how it was crafted to every aspect of the flavor in your mouth this is a winner.
Yesterday I visited the La Fortaleza distillery. This tiny distillery makes 100% tahona tequila, in the heart of the city of Tequila in the Lowlands.
Lot 200 | Cooked agave dominates the aromatic profile, while the ethyl remains restrained and complementary. Petrichor follows closely, layered with a trace of charred smoke, light white blossom tone, and a gentle thread of grassiness that adds freshness. On the palate, the agave arrives with intensity. Faint lime citrus provides a subtle flash of brightness before giving way to an enveloping, buttery richness. Petrichor remains a constant throughline, joined by light wood tones, soft earth, soft salinity, soft lime citrus. and a lift of freshness that keeps the profile balanced on the palate. The ethyl is impressively muted, allowing the spirit’s oily texture to fully carry and amplify each flavor across the palate. The addition of cooked agave fibers versus Lote 150’s uncooked to the fermentation is indeed a noticeable difference in taste. I prefer the Lote 200. The finish tapers slowly, led by lingering butteriness and sweet cooked agave, with only a whisper of petrichor remaining as it fades.
