Lot 68 | Another leaky cork fouled the bottle, $95 down the drain, Mexico’s best tequila in the world’s worst glass.

Lot 69 | Lote 69. Thanks Dustin! All of the good stuff as usual. Here are some differences I am noticing: A little alcohol on the aroma. Could be the glass. A good bite of pepper in the mouth. Shorter finish than usual. Still GREAT!

Lot 68 | Truly amazing juice. I was lucky enough to see this at a bar and spend a little time with this. Great aromas and flavors coming from the cooked agave and the barrel aging. Nose: cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, oak, butterscotch, molasses, cinnamon, honey, and butter. Palate: the nose really carries through to the palate. Cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, oak, butterscotch, molasses, cinnamon, honey, and butter. An absolutely amazing anejo that still has the agave as the star of the show but brings great complexity of aromas and flavors through the barrel aging. Just waiting for the day where I can find this on the shelf.

Lot 66 | Lote 66. The aromas on this one bring me back to childhood memories of something sweet cooking in the kitchen. Homemade cookies was my first thought. While mom didn’t cook with agaves, the smells of butter, caramel and vanilla are right up front. I get hungry just smelling this one. The taste is just divine. It has sweet agave stretching for miles. The vanilla and caramel and butter are all there too. I’m not saying this tequila is a dessert but I could easily pass on dessert and have this instead. I haven’t had other Fort Anejo lotes as of this review but if they’re anything like this one, happy happy happy is all I can say.

Fortaleza is a known legend and additive free champion in the tequila space. It is not everyday that I had a chance to explore this wonderfully delightful tequila. I was very pleased and impressive that this pour lived up to the hype. Sweet caramel, agave, oak, vanilla and citrus. I savored every sip of this pour.

There are people who think Forteleza is just popular through rareness….some people think that because it is harder to find outside of secondary market that it isn’t possibly as good as the internet influencers claims….that it’s just a pop-star with little to no talent. But that’s all far from the truth. I’d love to find 10 of the most talented tequila connoisseurs who wouldn’t put Fortaleza (in nearly all expressions) in their own top 3 brands or top 3 expressions. It would be an absolutely amazing thing to see a real taste off in the tequila world. I’d bet the farm that Forteleza would take the top prize.

Nose: Butterscotch, Carmel, Oak, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Butter, Toffee Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied viscosity palate:butter, butterscotch, cinnamon, baking spice Finish: Coffee, Butterscotch, Oak Carmel, Butterscotch and Oak dominate the nose on this. The taste is of sweet and well-rounded. Things that come to mind are butterscotch, cooked agave, carmel, butter, and oak. The finish is incredibly light with the carmel and butterscotch stealing the show. This goes down so easy, and the finish does nothing but completely validate that. This is a very solid Añejo that sacrifices very little cooked agave for something aged like this. This is an Añejo to remember!

Lot 65 | Lote 65 usual Fortaleza Añejo character. Best aroma in Tequila. Taste is great this lot is not as sweet as others. Good hot of black pepper on the back end. Finish is wonderful as usual.

Lot 61 | 2nd weekend: The aroma of oak, caramel, pecans/hazlenust are gourmand and makes the wafts of ethyl give it a slight sweet woodsy booziness smell. The flavor is strong with the initial oak sweetness. Agave with tastings of brown sugar, cacao, minute brininess, spicy pepperiness, trace amounts of smoke and a watery maple finish rounds it all out . The distinct taste of ethyl makes a discrete exit during the savoring. Would give it a 91 but didn’t use value as a rating.

Lot 63 | Delicious barrel notes goodness on the nose, maybe caramel and oak? Those notes follow through on the palate and finish. Lot 63a is a great bottle and a baseline for Añejo.

Lot 43 | The infamous Lot 43! A friend shared a glass with me and I finally got to try a holy grail tequila. What can I say about this supposedly XA-blended Añejo other than it was delicious aged Fortaleza.

Lot 43 | aug 15, 2023 Fortaleza anejo lote 66A Barrel notes with sweet agave Really liking this __________________ 8/2023 lote 43A adjusted my rating because this is my highest rated anejo. i had it at 92. bumped it up... Fortaleza does not disappoint. I have had several lotes of this over the last 10 or so years but didn't know to keep track. Nose: Sweet agave maple banana a little oak some butterscotch vanilla barrel spice Palate: agave oak vanilla a little pepper/heat in a good way Finish: medium/long, warms the throat Nice legs, very well-balanced as we expect from a Fortaleza product. Updated Dec 2, 2022 tried lote 63A a few times. really liking it but my tasting notes are lost so i need to wait til i revisit. Again tasted Oct 18, 2022 Fortaleza Añejo Lote 43A Nose: agave little oak vanilla barrel spice banana/bubblegum little cinnamon on bottom nose. John says mint. I didn't get mint; he didn't get cinnamon. Palate: agave heat vanilla little bourbon Finish: really nice finish, a little agave, a little heat and it stays with u for a bit Overall, Fortaleza Añejo has been (since 2013) and continues to be one of my top 3, maybe #1 añejos ever. Fortaleza does not disappoint. Ever. Never. This anejo is so well-balanced. It sets th bar for every tequila
