Sampled a bottle from early 2000's based on the full color label style (label with horse rearing up in colorful field as in pic #2) , compliments of my friend Eduardo Ureña. No lot numbers or any other identification numbers. 40% ABV Great aroma of cooked agave, cinnamon, caramel and melted butter. Amazing sweet cooked agave shines here, butter and pepper all hit on the flavor initially. Subsequent sips bring out baked pineapple and a hint of allspice. Some subtle notes of the barrel. A medium to long finish that holds on to the entire flavor profile. Not very complex, but the flavors are intense. Harmonious balance. It is it's simplicity that makes this so incredible. This is a superb, old school tequila. Remarkable how the cooked agave stands out in this reposado. A unicorn. Can't thank Eduardo enough for sharing this incredible treat.
Tasty product of CC
46% ABV
I tasted the 46% ABV.
Small batch tequila for sure. Light oak, light sweetness. Cooked agave notes with slight spice.
Light amber color in the glass. Aroma of agave, caramel and oak. Flavor of oak and some minerals. Medium finish.
Tasted at the distillery. Whereas the blanco is an earthy agave explosion this repo smooths things out while remaining very very good. Aroma and taste are great but it’s the finish that makes this tequila exceptional.
Agave forward, rounded out with vanilla and a little spice. Yes. Find some.
It’s tough to find a Reposado where the agave is doing all the talking but this is it! A little bit of background flavour from the oak but nothing like people have become accustomed to within the category. Great juice!
I love this tequila. It reminds me of an old Mexican barn with sweaty horses that just came back from the agave fields. And this is a good thing. Musty, oaky and lactic. To me, it embodies the true spirit of tequila. Baked agave gives way to a peppery, earthy, wet stone, decaying leaves, vegetal taste. Love it.
Originally sampled during Distillery visit Sept 2018
Old Colored Label Caballito Nose: Crisp, focused agave. Mineral notes and dynamic fruit and floral nuances. A nice pungency to it. Creamy caramel. Flavor: The first sensation is that this has an effervescent quality. It kind of bursts in your mouth. It slowly mellows a tiny bit delivering vanilla, pepper and creamy agave. Revision 7/11/2018: Also notes of cinnamon, dill, olives and cheese. Finish: This tequila has all the wow elements!
The only way to improve this would be to bottle it at 92 proof like a version of the blanco. Oak and leather on the nose. Agave and barrel spice in the mouth. Some numbing from alcohol and little bitterness make the finish very pleasant.
Delicious old school tequila- sweet and spicy.
A solid tequila, but it's very hard to get. Only available in Mexico, and only in very few places. If you see this, grab it. Very delicious.
Lot: AH08-07 View: golden, good color for a reposado. Aroma: very pleasent lactic note, cooked agave. Taste: watery, alcoholic, very unbalanced, ferrous. Aftertaste: acidic and bitter. Let it open for 15 min. Aroma: similar notes but more robust. Taste: less bad, unbalanced herbality, salty. Aftertaste: Bitter.
Agave azul from San José ranch, rested for 9 months in American oak barrels, acquired on January 2019. Color: very light yellow. Aroma: at first not very expressive, 30 minutes in the glass intense cooked agave notes, stone fruit sweetness, dark flowers, it has a light metallic note that dissipates after 20 minutes, full bodied nose, earthy. Just a touch of vanilla. Palate: cooked agave with soapy sensation, maybe from the floral aromas, mineral, at beginning it is slightly astringent and acidic but balances very well with sweetness, light mandarin note. Vanilla. Finish is medium to long, cooked agave with mandarin & a touch of brine persist. At the very end it is slightly astringent and has a light smoky sensation.
This tequila, presents a unique balance of agave and barrel aging it’s a stand out in my collection. Allow the bottle to breathe to enhance its distinctive flavor. The price can be on the high end but this tequila is exceptionally well made.
Aroma - Cooked agave, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, orange peel and a hint of oak. Flavor - Cooked agave, light oak notes, citrus from the blanco comes through. Creamy mouthfeel with a medium long and enjoyable finish. Not very complex yet enjoyable.
