Bottle: Single Barrel, Type of wood - American oak, Time in bottle - 23.2 months, Alcoholic grade - 43.3%, Lot number 183, VMANE24118 219327, 02/08/24 BC-183 Appearance: Goldenrod Nose: Oak, caramel, vanilla creme, almond, honey, butter, baking spice, cinnamon, fruity, plum, citrus, orange peel, milk chocolate, coconut, brown sugar, cooked agave, and brine/salinity…delicate and sweet, but not faint Palate: Oak, whiskey, barrel spice, molasses, tobacco, leather, caramel, vanilla, crème brûlée, almond paste/marzipan, baking spice, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, sweet potato, cooked agave, brine/salinity, and alcohol…a punch of barrel character that’s hotter than I expected for this ABV (not a bad thing) Finish: Coffee, cinnamon, clove, molasses, and tobacco…long, warming, and a touch more bitter than either the palate or the nose coupled to a medium viscosity Overall: This drinks exactly how I would expect it would after nearly two years in American oak. The agave character is there and, while it is still unmistakably tequila, the barrel aging plays a guitar solo that’s more memorable than the main chorus (like, a Carlos Santana collaboration). This particular single barrel from Big C Liquor and Wine has one of the lowest price points amongst all of the different single barrels I’ve seen available, so hopefully I’ll be able to grab another before they run out.
