Chamucos Añejo
“Right out of the bottle, the nose was grassy with a touch of lemon alcohol. The more it opened up the softness of sweet caramel and a vanilla came through. At first sip, the flavor profile was very subtle on the pallet. Upon entry, the light lemon alcohol is evident on the front of the tongue and perhaps a brightness that would be indicative of a highland agave, but the back of the tongue quickly takes over with a lovely medium grade caramel, vanilla , and a touch of rich chocolate all dominating the back of the tongue. The heat was more of an enjoyable tingle on the sides and roof of my mouth. I actually love this particular expression of anejo by Chamucos because there’s no doubt in my mind that this is an anejo tequila. In other words, there’s no crossover in taste lending itself to a whiskey with a slight bourbon profile. This is uniquely anejo tequila and I’m falling more in love with it with each sip.”
