Atanasio Fuerte con 10% fibras (46p) Nose: funk, butter, anise, minerality, Palette: bright apple, salty taffy, fermented apple, Finish: long with rich butter, spearmint and creaminess. This is really good. Excellent funkiness and juiciness. The finish is really long. Some ethanol, but it really brings out loads of rich flavor. This is a master class at a high proof tequila.

This is something terrifically special. There’s so much going on in each step. There’s such a wonderful mix of citrus, petrichor and wet wood, salinity (almost brine), hints of melon and cracked pepper on the nose. The palate is an initial punch of agave sweetness and that quickly melts into a long, slow finish of more savory notes like sweet potato, butter, and peppers. A little heat to it, but not too much. A friend described this as having had a bit more “vibrancy” to it than the standard Espíritu Fuerte, and I think that’s exactly it. There’s another layer here that makes an already wonderful pour into something more immersive.
