Nose: The agave comes through first but shares space with a layer of oak and a sweep of vanilla and caramel. There’s a dusty, almost musty edge that sits beneath it, and the alcohol shows itself more than I’d prefer, pushing the aromas into sharper territory. Palate & Mouthfeel: It lands slick and light, bringing agave forward before shifting into something that feels like pool water - an unmistakable chlorine like note that never quite settles. The oak is present along with a chemical citrus astringency that keeps pulling attention and works against the rest of the profile. Finish: A bit of spice shows up, but that same chemical aftertaste hangs on longer than anything else and becomes the final impression. Final Thoughts: This one just doesn’t come together for me. The sharper, chemical tones dominate. Not a fan.
TMM blind – Aroma: agave, a bit of mint, then floral and minerality each trade-off. Flavor: agave, pepper, mint. Nice finish that lingers.
AMM Blind Tasting: Aroma: green veggies, melon, cooked agave sweetness, some lemon rind, and a hint of mint. Decent nose. Palate: cooked agave sweetness, black pepper, hint of artichoke, hint of mint, decent body. Finish: easy sipper not much burn, a little peppery. Nothing overly remarkable, but good not too complex.
Tasted blind via AMM: Nice fresh floral citrus aroma. Flavors follow with some bitter citrus rind and a nice tingly finish. Flavor doesn’t quite hold up as well as the aroma but I’ll drink more of this.
Bright nose with some barrel notes. Funky palate don’t love
We selected 10 high-quality organic blancos, all from different distilleries, to see how they compared when tasted blind by 22 members of our tasting panel.
Nose: Cooked agave comes through first, but it’s quickly joined by sharp ethanol and a stony minerality. Bright lemon sits on top, edging into a pine cleaner note that gives the nose a distinctly chemical tilt rather than a fresh citrus one. Palate & Mouthfeel: The palate opens with agave and a well water minerality, followed by lemon and that same pine cleaner character. The mouthfeel is thin yet slick, with a buttery texture underneath, and an unexpectedly floral lift. Cinnamon shows up, adding warmth but not enough to pull it back into balance. Finish: The finish leans chemical, with lingering citrus, herbal notes, and cinnamon, followed by a touch of black pepper. It dries out toward the end, leaving a slightly chalky impression on the palate. Final Thoughts: This one carries a chemical edge from nose to finish. While the citrus keeps it bright, the cleaner-like notes dominate the experience. It’s not for me.
