Bottle: Batch 2, LOTE 817, 220426, #CASCAHUINEANDO Appearance: Pale honey-gold x luminous straw Nose: Cooked agave, minerality, wet cement, petrichor, brine/salinity, olive, light oak, barrel spice, roasted almond, butter, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, citrus, orange peel, fruity, peach, dried apricot, raw honey, and white pepper…in a word, sumptuous Palate: Cooked agave, toasted oak, barrel spice, vanilla, brown butter, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, baking spice, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, citrus, charred pineapple, orange oil, dry earth, brine/salinity, olive, minerality, vegetal, and fresh herbs…a little less sweet, a little more savory, and even slightly green Finish: Cooked agave, honey, black pepper, cinnamon, toasted oak, sawdust, and brine/salinity…extra long and spicy with an oily/viscous mouthfeel Overall: For those who appreciate Cascahuín’s unmistakable profile, this añejo delivers added weight and intensity at 44% ABV while preserving the earthy, mineral-driven character. The barrel influence is rich and expressive without veering into cloying sweetness while simultaneously balancing the savory and vegetal notes with remarkable poise. For the $83 I paid, I’m not sure what else I could ask for; this is simply exceptional. Having never had the 40% expression, maybe one day I’ll get to compare the two.
