“This EA strongly reminds me of Irish Whiskey. It greets the palate with an astringent molasses or peanut brittle assault. The bitterness is impressive in its staying power if you like that effect. I can smack my lips for minutes after each sip and still taste and feel the pucker in the back of the roof of my mouth. Then the effect finally softens into a faint vanilla vapor, which is my favorite part here.”

Tierra Sagrada Extra Añejo

“This extra anejo is among my favorites. It has the best of both worlds, combining addictive sweet notes with deep complexity: cinnamon, tobacco, layers and layers. When I drink this one I feel the wonder of well-crafted tequila. Also, when you want to emphasize the sweetness add an ice cube; for flavor depth drink neat. It's cool how this one varies so much with versus without ice.”

JAJA Tequila Añejo

“This anejo is NOT a sweet one. It preserves a lot of agave flavor, which can be a bit skunky in this case, but enjoyably so. I'd call this one a "smooth skunk" with a hint or two of almonds and maybe butter. I recommend it if you want one in your collection to contrast sweet ones.”

“At times reminiscent of the antiseptic edge of a fine single malt scotch, at times of the syrupy grenadine notes in a Shirley Temple, this tequila has a lingering sweetness that is a bit one-dimensional on the palate, but also pleasing, perhaps the result of the distiller process, which typically leaves out the classic roastiness imparted by traditional preparation methods.”

“At a tasting session in Cabo I chose this Reposado over the same line's Anejo. I liked both but this one better preserves the background flavor of agave, which blends favorably with the lingering hint of cinnamon from start to finish. The aftertaste of sweet spicy cinnamon is very refreshing. But don't take these write ups too seriously. Just drink and relax.”

“Caramel aroma with aggressive Chardonnay-like buttery start then giving way to a blend of mellow notes of lightly peppery agave. The drinking experience is therefore an abrupt contrast, but a pleasing one. If you like smooth and sweet, but don't want to lose all sense of roots, this anejo offers a classy butterscotch thump. ”
