This one is earthy with cinnamon, pepper and anise. Not as thick or sweet as some but a nice over proof. You will definitely get some burn with this one though.
Horno-2023-3 Nose: The nose opens with a deep wave of cooked agave. Anise and peppermint add a cool, sharp edge, while citrus brings a bright lift. There’s a floral note tucked in there, soft and fragrant, balanced by a peppery kick that hints at the bold profile waiting underneath. Palate & Mouthfeel: Slick but thin on the palate, the texture actually complements the bold spice that follows. Cooked agave leads the charge, followed by a rush of pepper and anise that lights things up. It’s bright, warm, and unapologetically spicy. A touch of pine sneaks in, maybe more herbaceous than resinous, adding a green, fresh layer. The citrus reappears just enough to keep things lifted and balanced. Finish: The finish is long, spicy, and fully saturated with agave. It’s persistent without being overwhelming, and the spice lingers. Final Thoughts: Bold, bright, and deeply rooted in agave, this is one for those who like their tequila expressive and a little fiery.
thank you to Cody lundquist for the sample. I enjoyed this expression. immediately, I got fruit, chocolate, alcohol and yeast on the nose. the palate was similar. I also got a strong presence of chocolate, agave and earthy notes with mild alcohol and pepper on the finish. rated 87 pts 10/2024 tasted blind in the TMM high-proof blinds rated 88 pts adusting rating to 88
High-proof tequilas, once only for hardcore drinkers, are now being released at a steady pace. Why?
As we begin a new month, we like to recap the bottles we poured on repeat from the month before.
PM Spirits is a juggernaut of an importer. One that brings some of the best spirits money can buy into the US market. That being said, I was very disappointed with the Grupo Tequilero distilled PM Spirits blanco I reviewed a couple years back. It had an acetone, nailpolish removerish note that I just couldn’t get past as well as a rather bitter finish. Coming into the Still Strength PM Spirit Blanco I was trepidatious. On the nose I’m hit with an abundance of alcoholic nip. Orange & lime pith follows as well as cooked agave. The astringent note that threw off the base blanco is still alive & well within the high proof. On the palate the citrus notes lead in addition to a earthy component & cooked agave. The acetone note is here, although not as prominent as the base blanco. The finish is bitter citrus rind and lime pith. Not my favorite, but a bit better then the base blanco. It’s surprising how the off notes I’ve found in both PM Spirits blanco’s are nowhere to be found in Lalo, Grupo’s flagship brand. Having the excellent reputation that PM Spirits enjoys, I expected more from their flagship tequila project.
