Meh. Some sweet flavors. Not much happening.

I rated this tequila blind, during the 2013 Spirits of Mexico competition in San Diego.

  • 50 Rating

Strong citrus and floral. Not very smooth.

  • 72 Rating

It is not a bad tasting tequila it is just average.

  • 70 Rating

Smoky, green, spicy, sharp

  • 70 Rating

Light aroma, vanilla and citrus with a light finish.

  • 70 Rating

Better than the reposado. Cheap anejo.

  • 73 Rating

light aroma. vanilla/cherry/wood on the nose. lighter in color. not bad for cheaper anejo. diffuser process used to extract sugars.

Mexican 38% abv. versión, lote: 17073H0313, bottled on 14-03-2017, tasted on 10-21-23. Color: dark yellow to light brown. Aroma: cooked agave, caramel, light wood note, light earthiness. It has a light barley aroma, why?! Palate: confirms aromas perceived, the sweetness on the palate is quite sweet but not from agave. Finish is medium, light cooked agave with sweet vanilla and hint of maple honey & barley note persists. Ends slightly bitter.

For the price it’s not bad. But let’s be honest, it’s pretty bad. I would not sip this neat again…

Only tequila in the pub. The anejo was the only bottle unopened so gave it a go. It can stay unopened!

  • 69 Rating

Great for margaritas! Again would NOT sip this thing but it’s my go to for mixed drinks in order to get the agave flavor

  • 60 Rating

I'm left wondering if this is actually aged in oak or just artificially flavored and colored.

So smooth and gentle with amazing finish. Since I didnt find another one at store, I tried herradura anjeho, which comes from the same distillery. Pricier, and nice, but with no magic.

  • 59 Rating

I didn't enjoy this one at all. it had a licorice and rubbing alcohol finish.

  • 56 Rating

the after-burn is nasty and not what you'd expect from an anejo

  • 63 Rating

Decent aroma on the nose but the taste does not match. Hard to pinpoint but not enough agave or oak. Very underwhelming and generic tasting. Finish is a bit abrasive and bitter.

Sad to say, but this once decent quality tequila has been completely ruined by Herradura's adoption of diffuser technology. Unless of course you prefer your tequila with an overpowering aroma and flavor of rubbing alcohol and astringents, with obvious additives to try to make the contents of the bottle more palatable..... What was once a decent tequila is now undrinkable.... I suspect the flavors and aromas of an anejo tequila are all artificially produced using additives. #faketequila

While I prefer other tequilas, I find myself buying this quite often. Perfect for a day of patio drinking with friends. I have had very few that can come close to competing in this price range.

Got a medical note In nose.

A nice inexpensive Anejo, good for those times when you just want something light. It was recommended by a bartender I know. It has a bite to it but it is not overpowering in its taste. I am not sure how long they actually age it, it seems young when you taste it but when you let it sit it seems to take on a better overall taste

Overall not a bad anejo and good for the price $25. Nice aroma but a little harsh after taste. I've used this in a margarita a few times just to try something different and it was a nice change.

  • 72 Rating

This has a really nice deep Amber color. Pepper on the finish. Not bad but in this price range I would still choose Olmeca Altos plata or resposado over this

Review #156 - El Jimador Tequila Anejo

El Jimador has been around forever and is from one of the big distilleries. The fact that the line wasn't 100% agave for a long time kept me from trying it.
