Nose: Cinnamon and barrel spice come forward first, carrying a warm, steady lift before settling into agave and a measured touch of oak. Orange brightens by adding a subtle freshness against the minerality that runs underneath. A hint of cherry vanilla ice cream rounds it out with a quiet, rounded depth. Palate & Mouthfeel: Medium slick mouthfeel, opening with agave and oak in equal stride. Vanilla and orange zest slide in next, giving a soft contrast of sweetness and citrus. Mint flickers at the edges, while black pepper and minerality shape the structure. There’s a salted butter richness tucked in that adds a gentle, savory curve without weighing anything down. Finish: Clean and comfortably warm, with oak lingering but never dominating. The spice stays restrained, letting that warmth stretch out in a way that feels deliberate and satisfying. Final Thoughts: Surprisingly agave forward for an XA, and that’s what makes it so compelling. The barrel and the agave stay in step, creating layers that feel considered rather than crowded. A genuinely well balanced XA that delivers.

G4 XA Mx lote 2 2013 I've tried this expression in the past but never rated it. received a sample from Matt Cavanaugh Agave Swappers and decided to do some sipping tonight. fruity with barrel spices and a pepper fizz, some oak but not excessively oakie, which is how i prefer my aged expressions. so this works for me.

On the nose: Cooked agave, white sugar, cinnamon, unsweetened gingerbread, light baking spices, grape, Pallet: sweet cooked agave, a little heat, cinnamon, floral, grape, white sugar I always go back and forth with XA’s that are this light. I can appreciate the agave forward flavors. It’s 85% agave 15% barrel influence. Judging it just as a tequila, it’s incredible. Everything you want it to be. Complex, deep, naturally sweet. Judging it as an Extra Añejo at this price point, I wouldn’t choose to invest in it. Grateful for Agave Swappers on FB for this sample!

Aromas of dried fruits, fig and apricot in particular, followed by deeper notes of cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and oak, as well as some hints of black pepper in the back. On the palate, a tasty blend of apricot pie topped with cinnamon and crystalized brown sugar, with some hints of allspice, cloves, and oak. The initial finish of stone fruit fades into lingering notes of black pepper and agave.

Nose: Celery, Raw Agave and then some cooked agave off the cuff. Carmel, butterscotch, vanilla, and some plum. Mouthfeel: very light mouthfeel for an extra Anejo but certainly not to its detriment Palate: Carmel, Thyme, Black Pepper, Smoke Finish: Carmel, barrel notes, oak and cinnamon

In my G4 Madera(lot 3) review I boldly proclaimed that said blanco was my favorite expression coming out of El Pandillo to date. Well, I’m beginning to rue those words. I stumbled across a 2024 lot G4 Extra Anejo at my local Total Wine & was encouraged to give it a shot by a TMM contemporary. So, I pulled the trigger and boy am I glad I did. The nose on this thing is nothing short of sensational. I picked up vanilla, leather, cooked agave, minerality, pronounced rye whiskey notes, citrus, butterscotch, caramel, black pepper, wet earth, floral notes, cloves, celery, and even rain water. My fiancée, who is not much of a tequila fan herself, gave the nose a shot and with great acclaim declared, “it smells better than normal.” On the palate I was greeted with barrel spice, rye whiskey notes, caramel, butterscotch, cooked agave, black pepper, dried fruits, citrus, apricot, minerality, wet earth and chocolate notes on the back palate. The finish was long, with light oak notes, citrus, and tons of spice. I found it absolutely delicious. The nose is my favorite part of this expression, with each new waft I uncovered something completely new. I suspect this outstanding extra anejo was aged in either rye whiskey barrels or rye heavy mash bill whiskey barrels, there is just so much spice present. This may be one of the most complex sippers I have gotten my hands on. Shoutout to Alexander Mikulka, I wouldn’t have picked this up without his review! 11/01/2024 LG0003XAE

The nose on this XA is heavenly. While a little light on the agave, it smells of flowers, oak and vanilla. I am also get a little pineapple and banana. Wow, such an easy drinker. More agave on the tongue than on the nose. I am also getting oak, caramel and almond. This one is spicy but at a nice level. Such an easy sipper.

Nose: beautiful bouquet of fragrances - floral /cooked agave / vanilla bomb / buttery / very light fruit scents / hint of lemongrass / nutmeg / chocolate Taste: elegant and smooth / agave forward / sweet / vanilla / chocolate/ pepper / banana/ lime / nutmeg/ Finish: heavy mouth coating / bittersweet/ lingering mouthfeel This XA has a fantastic nose. I would love to see a ‘super nose’ tell me everything that’s going on. I do love the vanilla and floral scents. I also like the agave and vanilla working together on the palate. A simple but enjoyable finish keeps this XA from going over the goal line for me. And the price point doesn’t make it a great value.

The aroma of this tequila is undeniably enticing, with prominent caramel and cooked agave notes that immediately capture the senses. Subtle hints of light ethyl and honey add depth to the aroma, while the lingering essence of bourbon enhances its allure. Upon tasting, the palate is treated to a symphony of flavors that unfold gracefully with each sip. The distinct presence of whiskey and black cherry pepperiness commands attention, balanced by nuances of tropical fruit and anise that grace the taste buds. The gourmand taste is further enriched by hints of freshness and honey, accompanied by the rich flavors of caramelized brown sugar and faint sarsaparilla, all notably underscored by a subtle alcohol tone and a whisper of date. As the tasting journey reaches its conclusion, the finish gently tapers down to a lingering sensation of whiskey and light pepperiness, leaving behind a haunting minerality and freshness that pleasantly coats the palate. An excellent XA imo.

Very sophisticated EA. Great balance between spices, nutty, right amount of oak and a nice creamy finish. Highly suggest it at the price!

All the G4 characteristics with a bright, and fresh agave and Vanilla sweet nose. Well balanced with lite sweetness, vanilla, spice, and almost underwhelming notes of oak. I also have the G4 5-year XA that cost significantly more than this standard XA, but I find this standard XA to be my preference.

Nice aroma of cooked agave with a caramel/ vanilla. Also get a little floral on the back end. Taste has a low to medium heat which is good. Let’s me know I’m drinking without it being to harsh. Taste is like the smell agave, vanilla, , oak in the middle with a medium finish of the vanilla ,floral and a little citrus. Very good extra anejo Potpourri and let it rest, and it’s even better

Aroma : Cooked agave and floral notes with mint and citrus. For an extra añejo that was definitely a surprise. Not much oak or aged notes to speak of. Taste : Crisp underlying agave and light oak. Caramel and almond/hazelnut predominate with some degree of baking spice. This is lightly sweet and somewhat spicy. Oily and complex too. Finish : Long and prolongs all the taste notes with some stronger baking spice. Top tier extra añejo. I hope I'll be able to find the "55" version soon because this was a hard one to put down.

G4 Extra Anejo This nose is full of cooked agave and buttery vanilla. The agave punches through nicely, you only get some slight oak but a sweet clean finish. I appreciate that Felipe utilizes older used barrels for aging. This allows the tequila tastes to still dominate without the oak taking over. Well done. ¡Salud!

This XA is one of my favorites to date. For the price, the value is excellent. Felipe is a mad scientist when it comes to creating epic juice and this is no exception. The aroma is of cooked agave, butterscotch and caramel. On the palate you will be treated with an agave-forward taste with a slightly orange blossom, citrusy taste with an oaky/woody, black peppery finish.

Vibrant nose of pineapples, citrus, agave and nuts. Clean feel to this one. First comes caramel and nuts, followed by baking spices, anise and pepper. Kissed with a lactic note. Nice agave presence - no overpowering oak at all. Lingering finish that invites another sip and another sip...
