LALO Tequila Blanco
“After about a year, I finally got in front of this. It certainly met my expectations, but that is all. I have tasted other expressions from Grupo Tequilero, but never been impressed enough to buy any of them. LALO is like Tequila on training wheels. It’s going to turn a lot of people onto Tequila and will most likely become the first mainstream additive-free Tequila to launch into the modern market. My tasting experience presented very minimal cooked agave character, unbalanced flavor, with a short and thin finish. This is clearly additive-free with no evident signs of manipulation, but I don’t think that fact should sell it alone. I find this to be a great starting point for someone wanting to appreciate Tequila, but you’re still paying more for the marketing than the actual juice. Frankly, it is as much of a gimmick as the heavily manipulated “premium” brands. The owners are trying to lure you with a story and additive-free verification, but the delivery falls very short. Arette and Cimarròn are exceedingly better values. I wouldn’t pay for LALO, but certainly wouldn’t turn down a free pour.”

Cascahuín Plata 48%
“The Cascahuín 48 Plata is very rich and full of terroir. Beautifully balanced and elegant in style, much like the 80 proof, but bearing more depth, concentrated agave character, and viscosity. This is the epitome of Los Altos Tequila, uncompromised and without excess manipulation. If you see this in on the shelf, considering stocking up unless you want to leave some for us. High proof Tequila is certainly becoming harder to acquire.”
