Kapena Li Hing Infused Tequila
“Very interesting, intense Anejio I think? Achieved with li Hing spice which is simply dried plums, so it has rich but somewhat cloying sweet sensation from aroma to flavor. Think its strength like its repo chili infused lies somewhere in mixology. Bartenders are going to have a blast using these in Margaritas. If you want an excellent sipper, try their Blanco. Salud”

For hot chili though it’s not bad, not on fire hot but a quality burn. On fence with this one. Try with food pairing to meld profile would also help.”

Kapena Tequila Silver
“Reminds of Lalo (same distillery) NOM 1468. Really nice cooked agave, warming but smooth not hot, minimal white pepper, vanilla and salty minerals to round out flavor. This is a solid blanco.”

Cazcanes No. 9 Reposado
“Great sipper, cooked agave, backing spices, cinnamon nice caramel flavor with soft buttery vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel for higher proof blanco, this one was good barrel, really stands out from the #7 & #10. Of the new NOM 1614, my favorite.”

Viva Mexico Blanco
“Distinct rubber/plastic nose which carries into flavor. Otherwise a nice blanco with elements of Mescal. Somewhat disappointing from all the hype.”

Juan Lobo Blanco Tequila
“Beautiful Agave but one dimensional, very smooth without much character. Could do worse for sure but not a fan for price.”

Mijenta Tequila Blanco
“Wonderful neat or in mix drinks, versatile, soft yet complex. This is their old NOM so heard it is better, if you can still find it buy some. For price it’s an excellent Blanco! Just a notch below top shelf.”

El Tesoro Reposado Single Barrel
“Not in balance or smooth. Scotch and heat too much for base style to handle. Would not recommend. Also cork was very dry and may have allowed oxidation, break was early and finish dry.”
More info →“High end, specialty Plata coming in at 46% ABV from El Chiqueno fields Amatitan Jalisco by Lagrimas, Del Valle expression. Sweet Agave, Brine & Minerality of deep well water push out white pepper, grapefruit and vanilla notes. This particular Agave from El Chiqueno is pulling a very acidic, mineral from soil same brix 32% as Ocho Plata with less sweetness, which maybe due to deep well water and higher fermentation.”
