Horrible, just horrible. Left a lingering coat of vanilla and cotton candy on my tongue... AVOID THIS CRAP!

NOM 1173 | Aroma: Oak,caramel, water, vanilla, earth and a candy sweet amplified smell that is a wee bit too much. Taste: Oak is dominant, caramel, honey, chocolate the agave is very muted. The dry down is short in flavor and this is where I taste a cough syrupy flavor that I don’t care for. Easy to drink. A excellent drink if you like the taste and smell of “extra sweet”.

NOM 1173 | Yes it has additives and tastes artificial. However for the money it’s not that bad, I could think of many others that would be worse.

NOM 1173. Holy additive punch bowl. So much fake flavor. Originally it tasted good but after trying much better additive free tequila such as ArteNom 1146, it's a drain pour.

NOM 1173 Some flavors of caramel and oak, but otherwise overpowered by artificial sweetness. Taste and texture seems very thin and watery, and the finish is short and sweet. That is: short, and sweet like cotton candy. Stay away.

NOM 1173 | This is awful. Thick, syrupy, glycerin manipulated for mouthfeel. Sweet on the palate with a fake cinnamon presence makes this a solid disappointment. Not sure the point of contracting with Santa Lucia to produce this... well to make money for both obviously but as a spirit? No. The previous añejos though not world changers were at least decent, subjectively natural products. This is not that and in fact is more in line with the whole current bullshit in tequila, skirting the rules and changing what a whole generation thinks tequila even is. It IS $20 for a liter, which is cheaper than sustainability, even for Costco.

Is there anything Kirkland doesn’t do well? Loads of agave from start to finish, that’s not the norm for Anejo’s and a nice surprise. Heavy oak on the back end that reminds me of a port or dessert wine, not something to begin the evening with.

Always a staple at home. The best value out there.

Strong up-front notes of cooked agave and celery. Black pepper, burnt sugar and bourbon finish. Strong butter on the nose. Nice juice for $20.

NOM 1472 | This rating is for the old bottlings from NOM1472 in the taller square bottle. A pretty good añejo for the price of 20-22 bucks for a liter. My bourbon drinking friends like to drink this as do I for the simple fact that it has a lot of bourbon elements going on. Oak, caramel, vanilla all combine to make reminders of the barrels used to age this spirit. Not really any agave which is probably the point. Scored down for that.

NOM 1472 | I'm not really sure what to do with this. It's a low-end añejo, but priced at a value. I wouldn't serve it as a sipper and I prefer blancos or certain repos for margaritas. My mom would mix it with Coke. I could drop it in a coffee or a mocha, or infuse it with espresso. I'm just getting too much astringent/antiseptic to want this añejo to be the primary flavor in my glass.

NOM 1173 | This is ok at the price point for an añejo. The nose is heavy on caramel and vanilla with a muted agave under the pepper notes The taste is similar profile, with a bitter start and a touch more alcohol coming out than desired. The finish pulls the sweetness out and brings balance to drinking this.

NOM 1173 | Tastes like someone dumped some fake vanilla essence into a tequila. The agave is completely underwhelming and the viscous glycerin additive mouthful makes it undrinkable.

Overly sweet upfront with bitter/dry finish. Additives apparent. Don’t recommend this one

This anejo is pretty simple and isn't very forward with agave. Hints of oak are nice, with a bit of caramel and pepper, but the finish is pretty weak.

Aroma: Cooked agave, vanilla and oak Flavor: Sweet, smooth, cooked agave and vanilla Finish: Smooth finish and a bit of artificial sweetener Too sweet for my taste as a sipper but great for a margarita with light agave nectar, fresh lime juice and a splash of water.

As someone whom does not sip ANY tequila, this one was quite sippable even for me. Granted I have not been able to try G4 or other highly recommended and high dollar sippers. I'm cheap since I always mix. I mix all tequila I drink with gingerale, Vernors Zero sugar specifically. This stuff was phenomenal for that. Vanilla was the primary flavor that came through whether drinking it neat or mixing it. Then there is the value to talk about as well. $45 US for a whole liter, I've been paying that for a 750 liter bottle of the Milagro Anejo I've been drinking lately and it's not nearly as smooth.

NOM 1173 | Let’s start with value….Good price. Price improves score. Consider this component when you actually search for a good sipping tequila. Another artificial improvement in score is the “recommend” section. 5 or 0 is not fair. I would give it a 2 but that choice doesn’t exist. Aroma is sweet and vanilla. Not caramel or butterscotch. It’s vanilla. The vanilla carries through to the taste with a slight hint of oak and agave. (Very slight). The finish is medium length and oily. There’s a lingering burnt flavor after the sweet vanilla. A positive is that there is no alcohol burn. Another positive is that this may mix well with cocktails. (Adjust your cocktails for the sweetness). Is this a good sipping tequila? No. It fills a market niche but it’s not what you reach for when friends are over.

Kirkland Signature Anejo Tequila from Costco - you get what you pay for

Even more exciting is the price: a 1 liter bottle will only set you back $23.99. What a steal!
