This is a treat of a XA. Great barrel influence on the nose and palate from this one. Nose: cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, oak, black pepper, butterscotch, cinnamon, dried fruit, and butter. Palate: the nose carries over to the palate. Great creamy finish with those barrel notes just lingering.

Aroma: 24 Generally very rich with plenty of depth and heft. Caramel, oak, and caramelized agave from the start. Vanilla and earth then start to lead the show. Soon followed by sweet fruit. Berries and a touch of creaminess. Palate: 28 Mouthfeel is pleasant with good viscosity and presence. Mild ethanol at the beginning which quickly dissipates. Cooking feeling. Kicks off with oak, agave and earth. Pepper then starts to evolve which is soon joined by sweet vanilla and mild fruit. Finish: 23 Finishes with spice and pepper which lasts for longer than I expected. It is also quite warming and provides the classic Kentucky hug which is quite enjoyable. Value: 8 My bottle was a very kind gift from friends so I don’t have the exact number. Typically goes for $125 in San Francisco so I will judge based on that. Hard to get a truly quality extra Anejo aged 4.5 years in 2 different casks from a proven brand while spending under $150

Nice floral nose. I get green apple and cooked agave. I smell vanilla and oak. Hints of orange and honey. On the tongue, I am tasting some agave but oak and black pepper. I get vanilla and caramel sweetness. Dried fruits and bit of almond. The mouthfeel is creamy with a bit of alcohol on the finish. Very nice XA.

Nose: floral / PEAR!!! / green apple / cooked agave / vanilla / plum / citrus-orange/ mint / chocolate/ honey Taste: cooled agave/ vanilla / oak / back pepper / pear/orange peel/ lemongrass / honey: barrel spice /earth Finish: sweet smooth citrus and pepper with a velvety mouthfeel that captures the bittersweet fruitiness and holds on to it to create a delicate spearmint aftertaste This extra anejo delivers a powerful concert of delicate fruitiness despite the long term barrel aging. The barrel notes that are there are strong but they are still supporting and lifting up the fruitiness of the agave. This is so smooth you can’t wrap your palate around the flavors on first or second sip. As your mouth gets fully coated the concert really begins. Wow.

What a fantastic XA. Cinnamon,Cherry, Cooked Agave, Carmel on the nose. The taste is all over the above with a finish of black pepper and orange peel. This is the kind of Extra Anejo that sets the example for others.

Phenomenal nose! Black pepper, cinnamon finish, agave on the palate but the finish falls of for me. Too short.

Smells of milk chocolate, buttercream, and oak. Butterscotch and cinnamon flavors with a super interesting, semi-hot finish with a little raisin vibe.

Well balanced floral, wood, spice and light citrus aroma. The aromas don't reach out and grab you and you have to fish for them a bit. Definitely opens up after just a few minutes of opening. Flavors of oak and light caramel up front settling into agave and brown sugar. Not the biggest XA fan but this one hits all the buttons for me.

Cooked agave and oak on the nose.. wet cement, earth and mustiness, but not in a bad way. Nice body not watered down…. Has some heat, black pepper with a long finish some fruitiness.. with the flavor of dried fruit. Sweetness and bitterness like dark chocolate …. Smell is like wow.

Barrel influence on the nose. Not much agave. Pallet is soft, but very easy to drink. Tough to detect the agave on this one but I still really like it. An XA is expected to have a lot of barrel influence

Aroma: Very nice and clean aromas of cooked agave, dried fruit, and a slight vanilla sweetness. Taste: Sweet on the tip of the tongue, creamy smokiness with a flavor of cooked agave and pepper. Qualities of banana bread. Finish: Dried fruit and cooked agave flavor fill the palate, coupled with oak, pepper, and a slight vanilla/caramel sweetness. Overall: Was looking forward to trying this one, it’s an excellent tequila. It’s impressive what Cascahuín is able to do with an additive-free tequila like this one. A unique extra añejo that is still clearly tequila. One of my favorites.

So happy I bought this XA. Well balanced Agave and barrel flavors. It’s one of my favorites! Wish I could taste the French Oak version.

Aroma: Oak, agave, bourbon. Orange peel. Cinnamon and caramel. Flavor: agave comes through more in the flavor. I get a good amount of orange. Oak and bourbon are there in the flavor but not as strong as the aroma. Some citrus and baked goods. Mix of cinnamon, brown sugar and molasses. Finish: the citrus builds and gets much stronger in the finish. I like it because it doesn’t make it drink as heavy as if the oak and bourbon were as present throughout. Some pineapple and orange on the back end. A little agave. Pretty long finish and a nice tingle. Overall: I like this XA a lot and I’m not generally as into aged tequilas. It’s complex and changes from start to finish and even sip to sip. Not over oaked and I feel like I can pick up hints of the Blanco in there. This is on my short list of aged tequilas. This is a winner. It gets points for value. ~$120 for this good of an XA is a bargain.

Aroma/Taste: This tequila has a fantastic aroma with cooked agave, mint, bell pepper, citrus, yeast, wet earth, and a hint of cherry. The taste sticks closely to the aroma, with more cooked agave and a bit of a solvent or medicinal flavor, which isn’t unpleasant. Finish: The finish features jalapeño and white pepper, ending with black licorice. It has just the right amount of heat for me, which I really enjoyed. Overall: Tasted blind, this is a solid tequila. It's well-balanced between heat and sweetness and has a softer mouthfeel that makes me think it might have been aerated. Definitely worth trying again!

It manages to retain the bright agave while still delivering the right amount of oak from aging, a hallmark of my favorite XAs. I’m picking up some honey and caramel, but also dried fruits—apricot and maybe caramelized pineapple, with a touch of espresso bean on the finish. This tequila makes me happy.

Another masterpiece from the Rosales family. Melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and spice lead the way before cooked agave takes over. Subtle oak notes present, but it doesn’t overpower the agave. I get raisins at the back end before a warm finish. Bravo

This is the goods. An Extra Anejo that should be the bench mark. Dried fruit, fresh vanilla, caramel and sweet cooked agave. Light wood and alcohol. I really like this XA, might be the favorite. This is from 2018 lot

Aroma : Dried fruit with pear, raspberry. Almond, vanilla, and caramel. Some baking spices and a small touch of cooked agave. Taste : Full bodied with the same dried fruit notes with cooked agave as well. Oak, nutty with almond, and light sweetness with vanilla and caramel. Finish : Long lasting and prolongs dried fruit notes with a little bit of cherry, and the same nutty and sweet notes from before. This tequila hit all the right notes for me. Plus I love that there was cooked agave AND dried fruit notes. With many Añejos and Extra Añejos it seems like you only get one or the other. This is top tier.

Okay, im a Cascahuin fan. But this is no joke. Wonderful nose. Dried friut and cherries. A bit of oak. Amazing. Super oily, agave, oaky, baking spice and fruit cake on the tongue. Exceptional.

Pleasant amber color and nice long legs in the glass. Aromas of caramel, vanilla and alcohol (at 43%). Flavors of cooked agave along with the oak from longer aging. Nicely rounded, long finish. From the alcohol aroma I expected this might burn but it is very smooth. This is a Mexico only bottle. I thought the price was a bit high until I heard the prices for other XA.
