Special tasting with Tony from El Tequileño! I think it’s my favorite expression from them. It’s a little rough on entry which I like. Maybe tied with the Platinum.

Tasted at Sip Tequila Fest A decent high proof option from the valley. I appreciated the cooked agave forward profile here, but it was a bit hot and one note.

Vegetal and earthy with cinnamon anise and mint. A little bit of minerality as well. It's solid if unrefined.

Aroma was pleaser with nice citrus and minerals. This one has a little heat on it with nice citrus notes. Will spend more time with it and let it open up.

Has a nice punch. 50% ABV isn't my favorite, but this one doesn't feel it, which is good. Really nice cooked agave on the nose. Some interesting minerality on the palate. Sugar cookie-like finish. Would love to try this where the agave are autoclave cooked at low or no added pressure.

Medicinal nose from the high ABV, but this has an easy entry for the 50% ABV. Minerals, earth, agave sweetness and a nice finish make this a pleasure to sip. 22, 27, 21

Mellowed in American Oak - 100 proof There’s a lot of cooked agave aroma with a nice vegetal essence. It’s clean with hints of sage and light honeysuckle. There’s some minerality and alcohol vapors. Overall the nose is mostly cooked agave and herbs. On the palate I’m getting that herbal sage note up front that’s mixed with the cooked agave sweetness and then some vegetal pepper shows up. The alcohol is slightly present along with some minerality. Overall the flavor is a somewhat intense herbal and peppery experience on top of caramelized agave.

I had the pleasure of enjoying a double while conversing with Master Distiller Tony Salles. The totality reminded me of the Blanco Mixto but supremely amplified. The aroma was distinct and captivating, with delicious cooked agave, potent peppermint, effervescent spearmint, vibrant orange and lime citrus, pronounced minerality/petrichor, candied sweet potato, green grapes, cinnamon, and a spike of alcohol. On the palate, the boldness truly shone through with mint, candied yams, green grapes, amplified spearmint and peppermint, anise, and a tangy sour grass that intertwined beautifully. The finish left a minty freshness, lingering cooked agave, fading citrus, and a palatable heat with a spicy herbal freshness that rounded out the experience.

Not sure what happened here, maybe being neck pour or just a bad bottle but the whole experience was dominated by alcohol/ethanol and some unpleasant by products/chemical flavors. Nose was bit muted also, minimal agave and pepper notes, just not my cup of tea and i love high proofs.

Lots of caramel on the nose even though not a barrel tequila. This followed through on the taste. Also full of anise. Finish is good. Not my favorite high proof but I’d still recommend it. Need to re-rate. I scored this very poorly in a blind. I also tasted this with Jongmin Kim the other day and did not like it then either. The original 87 rating is going to drop I am sure. Re-rated based on several recent tastings and the TMM blind. This has an okay nose but the palate is overpowered by alcohol. A good mixer but there are way better HP sippers

For the price point, this is one of the best releases from Tony Salles, light pepper, citrus, followed by delicious agave notes

Nose: agave / earth /minerals / cinnamon/ green apple/ melon / lime / spearmint/ Taste: agave sweet /. Cinnamon/ orange peel / citrus / pineapple/ lime/ spearmint/ minerals/ alcohol Finish: smooth and delicate watery mouthfeel/ lingering cinnamon and citrus notes / departs with a clean spearmint taste This still strength blanco has all the bold flavors you’d expect from a high proof and the citrus and cinnamon notes work in harmony to provide a delicious well balanced taste. The alcohol on finish is present but not overwhelming. A great first shot at a high proof expression from El Tequileno!!!

El Tequileño Still Strength absolutely overdelivers and punches well above its price point. At $49.99, this is one of the best values in the still strength category—full stop. Aroma: Rich, expressive, and unmistakably agave-forward. You get deep cooked agave right out of the gate, layered with roasted fig and a pop of orange zest. It’s inviting without being overly sweet—balanced and authentic. Taste: This is an agave bomb in the best way possible. Roasted agave dominates, backed by bright floral notes and a clean hit of lemon peel that adds lift and freshness. The higher proof gives it intensity, but it’s controlled—not harsh—and carries the flavors across the palate with real presence. Overall: What’s most surprising is how this stacks up against other still strengths that cost significantly more. Some of the higher-priced bottles simply don’t deliver this level of agave purity or balance. It’s hard to justify their ratings when this exists at under $50. Rating: 92/100 Outstanding value, bold profile, and a must-have for anyone who appreciates a true agave-forward tequila.
