French Oak Bomb. The taste and aroma go hand in hand. All that you gather in the nose explodes on the taste bud with vanilla, caramel, clove, toasted bread, clinging dark chocolate, tingling allspice, nuttiness (?), and anise. The cask’s flavors are layered and coat the palate, feeling a bit silky, hiding the fact that it’s a bit higher in proof. The finish and drydown are an amalgamation of anise, cooked agave, allspice, and fading vanilla tones.

At first, the taste is fairly ashy. Then a lot of sweetness comes in. Overall a decent age Tequila. And a pretty bottle.

Tasted at Sip Tequila Fest This extra anejo’s profile was exceptional. A real treat, definitely an indulgent sipper with barrel char, baking spice, nutmeg, vanilla, caramel, coffee, cocoa, dried raisins, dried cherries, even a hint of rancio with deep wood characteristics. Tasted this alongside ArteNom 1146, and as much as I loved the anejo, it simply couldn’t compete with the depth of this incredible extra anejo. The Fonseca family are masters at blending old stock. This Extra Anejo from the Tequileña distillery was my favorite aged expression from Sip Tequila Fest. Although the asking price is cost prohibitive, I knocked several points because of this, I would recommend trying a pour at a local bar on a special occasion.

This was delicious. A blend of 3,4 and 5 year extra anejos. Nose of burnt caramel and chocolate, some spice. The palette has similar notes with butterscotch and a woody finish. If you can find it, it’s definitely worth a glass!

Nose: Oak, Agave, Pepper, Toffee, Mint, Chamomile Tea Mouthfeel: Light Bodied Palate: Oak, Carmel, Chocolate, Tea Finish: Oak, Black Pepper, Carmel Tea This was a well made tequila but I feel like the Oak overpowered a lot of the flavor and aroma.
