The Rioja cask absolutely shines on the nose, rich dried fruits, dark cherries, and wine soaked oak. The agave takes a subtle backseat. On the palate, cooked agave makes its presence known, through continued notes of dried fruit and wine influence. The barrel is impressive but not overpowering. The finish lingers with warm cooked agave, a gentle peppery finish. Another win from the Ensueno Team!!
This was a really enjoyable reposado. Balanced, flavorful, and nicely layered without losing its agave identity. It strikes a good middle ground between brightness and barrel influence. On the nose, cooked agave comes through clearly, supported by a gentle oak presence. There’s a bright citrus note with a pop of tangerine that adds freshness. Black pepper and earth give it some depth, while cinnamon brings warmth. A subtle hint of chocolate rounds it out and adds an inviting richness. On the palate, the cooked agave remains front and center, balanced by oak and black pepper. Citrus carries through, leaning more toward orange peel, which adds a slightly zesty edge. Earthy notes keep it grounded, while cinnamon and vanilla provide warmth and a touch of sweetness on the finish. Overall, this is a well crafted reposado with good structure and complexity. A solid, flavorful bottle that stays true to the agave while letting the barrel add just enough character.
Wheated bourbon barrel at 47 ABV, sweet cooked agave, light cooking spices, absolutely delicious with a nice mouth feel and finish.
