There is something very OFF with this release, maybe the bottle I received was tainted, but after poking around I’ve seen that others have had similar things to say. I wanted this to be awesome, however there is such a raw/green agave note on the palate that makes this abrasive and almost undrinkable. Then we can’t look past the pricing on this one, for $185 you have to absolutely bring it. Just by association you’re now in the: Fuenteseca Cosecha territory. $125 is my cap for blancos TYPICALLY but I’ll go higher if needed. I know opinions are all subjective just like palates, but this one was a huge miss for me, I’m not going to sugar coat it or pull a punch.
This is a very nice and flavorful pour. it hits about middle of the road for me but the price really hurts the score.
Nose is funky and musty. Not a fan. Palate is better but that mustiness follows through. Nice warmth that follows through on the finish going down. Don’t love it. Sample Provided by Agave Swappers for Review
Really solid blanco. Cooked agave is front and center, and that eucalyptus note gives it a fresh, cooling twist that makes it stand out. You get agave, a little minerality, some pepper, and a touch of salinity. The 46% ABV carries the flavor nicely without being too much. Finish is clean with that herbal note hanging on. It is a little pricey… but honestly, the bottle alone is awesome as a decanter to
Aromas are floral, citrus, grass, earthy, mineral. I’ve seen others repeatedly mention aroma of eucalyptus. I’m not super familiar identifying that but when I look it up it’s a minty, menthol, herbal, sweet aroma—so yeah, I get that here. Flavors are herbaceous, citrus, and peppery. It’s got some ABV kick! Once that settles down there’s a minty, menthol, slightly plastic, spicy finish that I enjoy. The price point is very high and for AMM scale that knocks off some points. But this is an enjoyable blanco I’ll happily share with fellow club members.
Due to my involvement in a campaign with these folks, I withheld my review a bit longer as to not influence anyone else. Nose: Eucalyptus, Chamomile, Citrus, Cashew Palate: Pepper, Grass, Lime, Eucalyptus Finish: Eucalyptus, Pine nuts, Earth This is one of those things; you've got a polarizing spirit here. That Eucalyptus is not going to work for everyone. In this case, Eucalyptus is grown nearby and it definitely has an influence on the open-air fermentation. You're gonna have folks that love that and folks who hate that. The story of what happened during the cooking process (with the oven shut off and then subsequently cook the agaves for over 65 hours) is a unique one that makes this expression even more unique. The price point will definitely be a non-starter for some but I was happy to be able to try it and greatful of the brand for sending me a bottle. They will have more projects in the near future with the same PX casks that were used on the cascahuin House of Rare and 55-25 releases. This brand will most certainly be on my radar.
