I tasted these special release ocho anejos 3 or 4 yrs ago but realized I hadn't rated them

Tasted the Barbados and Jamaica Plantation barrel series side by side. The Barbados is incredible! One of the best tequilas I've had a d definitely one of my favorites. Flavors jumping out of the glass. I was less fond of the Jamaican barrel finished expression, although I'm not typically fond of funky Jamaican rum either. As all things Ocho puts out, it's a top quality product so I probably would drink it again but wouldn't choose it from a lineup or pay for it if something else was available.

Nose: Initial round rum note wrapped in light oak and spice. Dried fruit: citron and apricot. Fragrant fruitiness, subdued perfume aromas, and an appealing muted sour note. A touch of vanilla and ginger. Everything here is singing in tune. Flavor: Cantaloupe, tropical fruits and agave richness. Grilled pineapple basted with melted butter, dark brown sugar and sweet jerk spices. Some pepper heat and tannins play on the back palate on the finish.

This is, by far, my favorite Ocho Single Barrel release!! Great aroma of dried fruits up front, chocolate and heavy butter aroma. Just awesome!! Complex aroma that keeps evolving, real nutty. Great character thanks to its 92 proof!! Agave taste is present, but well balanced with the cask taste providing oak and maple. Pepperish taste up front, light spice.

Surprise surprise, another gem from the Ocho lineup. This tequila is really sweet but not in the gross way that additives make it sweet, it’s all from that amazing rum! This is just begging to made into an old fashioned!

LOT 8ASB-BAR2017, bottled on 18/06/2019. Color: pale yellow. Aroma: raw agave, mandarines, herbaceous, a touch of caramel/vanilla, smells creamy & has an effervescent sensation, 15 minutes in the glass the agave becomes slightly sweeter & oaky wood notes also show up. Palate: sweet cooked agave, effervescent sensation, vanilla, herbaceous, turns slightly astringent but does have a good sweet & sour balance. Oaky. Finish is medium to long, sweet cooked agave and vanilla persists, although at the very end it becomes slightly too woody.

Sweet honey rum sort of smell very pleasant like a good cologne, can definitely taste the rum cask making for a pretty smooth flavour and finish, a very sweet tequila for sure!

Beautiful nose, I like that the higher ABV helps push the complexity of the barreling to the fore front. Loads of spicy rum tones and dried fruit. On the palette the blend of the barrel sweetness and agave is nicely integrated, spice and heat create a nice balance with a little bit of salinity deep on the finish.

Light nose, kind of bananay. Agave taste with banana as well.

Sweeter than most anejo. 700 ml bottle not 750. 2017.

Agave is still very noticeable here for an Añejo; interesting aspects to this include maple, caramel & tropical notes, and a wonderful body coupled with a smooth finish. Naturally sweet due to the rum finish. A seriously amazing tequila... if you can find it, buy it. One of my very favorite Añejos; just wish there was more of it available.
