Don Chencho Blanco (80 proof)
“This is a different label than the one that appears in here. It’s an abstraction of an agave plant. The recipe has changed as well, this is distilled once in copper and changes the profile. On the nose is quite lactic, herbal and sweet. On the palate mineral, black pepper, herbal and kind of spicy, I detect that it was fermented on steel. On my retro nasal lactic and herbal. Bang for the buck.”

Tequila G4 Añejo
“Tried the Mexican 38% version. Golden yellow, good rear adhesion. It has a really good aroma, really sweet, cooked agave, cinnamon, wood, herbal and mineral. On palate woody, astringent like lemon or orange peel, sweet, but smells better than it tastes. Good balance between the sweet and sour. On the aftertaste a lot of astringency en my retronasal. Super good value.”

Siete Leguas Blanco 47
“Super nice tear adhesion. This smells super sweet, really herbal, kind of in between the 7 décadas and the normal blanco. Quite lactic and mineral, some black pepper. Some floral notes, maybe lavander. Taste is quite strong, it makes it kind of hard to notice the nuances perceived in aroma. Sweet, herbal, spicy like black pepper. It’s not bad, but I hoped for something else, something more. ”

Cascahuín Destino
“LOT: 588 This is the yearly anniversary edition of Cascahuin, and it seems that they went back to the legendary 11 Brix formula for this one. Even tough this is a bit lower graduation, at 49º or 98. I must say I’m typing this quite excited I just opened it and just had a small whiff. After 5 minutes of being poured; Aroma: this is quite the Cascahuin smell. Wet cement, petrichor, floral kind of lavander, some wood astringency, cooked agave, sweetness, alcohol but not over powering for a 49, some anise. Taste: quite sweet, very floral, some wood astringency, quite complex. I can tell it still want to open up a lot. After taste: citrus like orange peel, black pepper. I let it open for 30 minutes. Aroma: quite similar, I don’t detect changes. Maybe a little lemon citrus that wasn’t there before. Taste: it’s unique, really sweet, very floral like lavander, wood, some citrus like lemon or orange peel Aftertaste: black pepper and oily citrus. I let it open for another 30 minutes. Aroma: I now get a super subtle smoked aroma in the background as well. Taste: at some moments it even tastes like honey made with lavander or mesquite. This is super special, Salvador has done it again. I will revisit after this has evolved more and after making blind tastings. ”

Especial Newton Blanco
“Lot: LJ155 NOM: 1173 Aroma: much better than expected for the price. Cooked agave, some citrus and pineapple. I cannot usually tell between column distillation and diffuser, but it’s one of the two, maybe both. Taste: really not much to be found here, tastes like watered down tequila. A little citrus, a little pineapple, harsh alcohol burn even tough it’s only 35º/70. The chemical flavor of the column or diffuser is found. ”

Tequila Turincio Blanco
“I couldn’t find any lot number. This is a very industrial common-like tequila. Nothing really special, I think this is a diffuser or at least column distilled. I get some citrus like orange peel, raw agave, sweetness and bitter astringency. Not bad. But not good either, this could easily pass as a Don Julio blanco.”
