“Visual: Nice bright golden color. Very clear. Leaves long legs and minimal tears in the glass. Nose: Cooked agave, Vanilla, Cinnamon, peach, butterscotch, apple, chamomile and some coffee. Taste: Cooked agave, Caramel, vanilla, cinnamon still there, apricot, tangerine, black tea and cacao. Finish is a nice roasted almond and honey. Great tasting tequila with a nice thick oily mouthfeel. Not a huge XA fan but this is great.”

“Clear in the glass, but not bright. Nice long legs leave minimal tears. Nose: Butter and cooked agave is the first thing I noticed. Opens up to banana, coconut and green apple. Grapefruit, roses, and brine round it out with a lactic tone as well. Taste: Olive, melon and celery dominate, with hints of agave and pineapple. Finish: Excellent long finish tastes of orange peel, celery and jalapeño. The lactic flavor is there throughout as well. Really liked this blanco.”

“Looks very nice in the glass. Clear and bright. Nice slow legs and pearls all around the glass. Nose: Initial alcohol dissipates after letting it breathe. Cooked agave, Cinnamon, coconut, Lemon, some oregano, flowers and brine. Taste: silky mouthfeel with a good bite. Leaves the gums and tongue a bit numb. Fruity flavor dominated by green apple, grapefruit and lemon. The alcohol is there but not overbearing. Some Jalapeño. Finish: Nice peppermint finish, and I am getting a bit of cooked hominy. Would drink again, but I prefer the 80 proof.”

“Nice golden color in the glass. Long legs without many tears left behind. Nose: Not too complex. Agave, pepper, some cinnamon and alcohol. Taste: The alcohol is still there,and gives it a nice bite. Agave, pepper, oak, cider, hint of citrus, bit of mint, butterscotch and honey. Finish: Great finish that Lingers. Tastes like grapefruit and honey. Good reposado that still has loads of agave flavor. Excellent value since I bought it in Mexico for around $11. I am basing this review on the Mexican version which is only 36% abv. So the 40% may have more flavors. ”

“Visual: clear and bright. Very light straw color. Legs that slowly scrape the glass and leave it crying. Nose: Agave, butter, vanilla, pepper, light cinnamon, some peach, lemon, chamomile tea, hint of honey, saw dust and cream soda. Taste: Agave and butterscotch dominate. It has a nice thick oily mouthfeel. I get some hints of vanilla, cinnamon, peach, celery and walnut. Finish: A nice long lasting finish that tastes like a mixture of grapefruit and melon. This is my favorite reposado that Ive tasted so far. Excellent tequila.”

“Visual: Looks like apple cider vinegar. Not very bright or clear. It does leave nice long legs and tears on the glass. Nose: not very complex nose. Heavy oak presence and alcohol. Almost tastes like I’m drinking whiskey. Some earth, vanilla, prunes, coffee, and vinegar. Taste: Oak dominates, some cinnamon, whiskey,and vinegar. Finish: the finish is nice and long, but withou great flavors. Im getting a mix tangerine and coffee. This tequila was gifted to me, but there is no way I would pay the retail price for this. Its not bad, but It doesn’t taste like tequila to me. ”

“Eyes: Very clear and bright. There is almost no color to this repo - very light straw color. Very little tears left behind by the long gentle legs that snake their way down the glass. Nose: agave, butter, and alcohol are the dominant aromas. Once it opens up I get scents of wet grass, some pineapple, banana, lemon, hay, rose, baby oil and cream soda. Taste: not very complex taste, but it is very good. The alcohol leaves some lip numbness (which I dont mind). I get agave, pepper, banana, and grapefruit. Finish: The finish stays with you. It is a nice blend of oregano and mint. It is a nice repo that I may buy again if I am lucky enough to find it again.”

Tapatio Excelencia Extra Añejo (Lot 1, MX only)

“Beautiful clear caramel color. Long legs that hesitantly make their way back down the glass, leaving minimal tears behind. Nose: The alcohol hit me first, but after letting it breathe all the aromas came through. Caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, honey, dark chocolate, leather, toffee dominates, some pineapple, orange peel and chamomile tea round it out. Loved the nose. Taste: Nice oily mouthfeel. Cooked agave, caramel, cinnamon, apple, cacao (instead of the chocolate that I originally smelled), some coffee, honey and toffee. Finish: nice long finish of dark chocolate, and the taste of toasted bread stays with you for a while. Really liked this XA. Hope I can afford to keep it around.”

“Very clear in the glass. Leaves long legs that cling to the class leaving behind tiny dispersed tears. Nose: I loved the nose on this tequila. Agave, cinnamon, pineapple, melon, honeydew, vanilla, mint, minerals, roses and cake frosting (not kidding). Taste: The taste wasn’t as complex as the nose, but was still good. It is very silky in the mouth. Some olive, banana, coconut, lemon, and oregano. Finish: loved the long lasting finish. It is a blend of coconut, jalapeno, and bell pepper. I would definitely buy this again.”

“Nice clear caramel color. Legs come down the glass fairly quickly, and don’t leave many tears. Nose: All I could initially smell was wet decayed wood. It was not pleasant at all. After letting it open up the aromas were pretty complex. Vanilla, and oak dominated, but there were hints of cider, hay, tobacco, tamarind, coffee, leather, toffee, walnut and maple. Taste: Heavy barrel influence. Caramel, vanilla, oak, cinnamon, coffee, dark chocolate. Finish: Not a great finish. Its mostly roasted walnut with apple cider vinegar. Pretty good añejo, but at the price point Id probably buy something else. The initial aroma, and the finish were the biggest let downs. Beautiful bottle. ”

“Nice legs and some tears on the glass. Bright and clear. Medium viscous mouthfeel. Nose: agave, orange, lemon, flowers, grapefruit, minerals. Taste: Agave, black pepper, orange, lemon, grapefruit, bell peppers. Finish: jalapeño, and very citrusy. Lots of fresh green vegetal notes. Really tasty. Very straightforward tasty tequila. Vegetal notes all around. Would buy this again.”

“Clear and bright. Longs legs with so many tears I renamed the glass llorona. Nose: Agave, orange peel, pepper, asparagus and minerals. Taste: Nice medium mouthfeel, cinnamon, olive, green grapes, grapefruit, oregano, celery, bell pepper, and jalapeño. Finish: A vegetal finish that lasts a bit. A really good tasting tequila, but for the price Id rather buy something else from this NOM.”

“In glass: Long legs that cling to the glass leaving some tears behind. Light butterscotch color. Nose: loads of agave, butterscotch, caramel, some cinnamon, light tangerine. Taste: No numbness on the lips/gums. Nice thick mouthfeel, Agave, caramel, cinnamon, butter, oak, pumpkin, light vanilla. Finish: nice long finish of vanilla, caramel, some toffee, tamarind, and agave. A very good reposado, and I dont usually like reposados. The long finish is the best part.”

“Im basing this review on a “barrel select” bottle of this tequila that I thoroughly enjoyed. Glass: nice legs and tears. A very light straw color. Clear and bright. Nose: vanilla, some agave, dried fruit (apricot), oak. Taste: medium mouthfeel, slight numbness. Taste the oak, vanilla, white chocolate, tangerine, honey, and apricot. Finish is long with a taste of honey. Really enjoyed it.”

“Very clear and bright in the glass, with slow legs that cling to the glass. It has a very light straw color. Nose: Agave, Apricot, Pineapple, light vanilla, i get cucumber somehow, and pear. Taste: A nice medium mouthfeel, with very little lip/gun numbness. Papaya, bit of apple, some honey, some vanilla, kiwi(?), asparagus, celery, and still get some of the cucumber in the taste. Finish: nice finish of green apple, celery, vanilla and i get some of the oak there at the end. One of the few reposados that Ive liked, but when the añejo is only a few bucks more, I’d rather get the añejo. ”

“Eyes: Clear bright honey, flowing legs and minimal tears. Nose: Some agave, hint of caramel, oak, some prune and cherries(?), tamarind, alcohol. Taste: Cooked agave, apple cider, prune, some cherry, tamarind is still there, butterscotch, leather, roasted nuts, toasted bread. Finish: short finish with some heat. The roasted nuts and butterscotch stayed with me for a while. Dry finish. For the price, this is an excellent tequila, but it’s magic is in making mixed drinks. I love using this for palomas.”

“Eyes: Clear and bright in the glass. Stacy Keibler legs that slowly fall down the glass, and surprisingly almost no tears left. Nose: Not strong on the nose, but very complex. I smell Agave, butter, pepper, grass, melon, citrus (grapefruit, lime and orange peels), Celery, mint and a hint of pine. Mouth: Nice and thick oily mouthfeel. Very sweet green apple flavor dominates. Pineapple, Honeydew melon, grapefruit, lime, celery, oregano, mint and a hint of mushroom. Finish: Nice long finish but not a lot of heat. The green apple and honeydew taste stayed with me long after I tasted it. At $35/Liter this is a great value that should always be stocked. Excellent tequila.”

“Visual: great clarity, transperancy, and brightness. Nice long legs that leave the glass crying. Nose: agave, olive, and lemon/citrus dominate. Also smell pepper, mint, lemon tea, with hints of green apple pineapple and brass. Taste: Medium alcohol feel with some lip and cheek numbness to let you know its tequila. Agave, olive, pepper, cinammon, apple, jalapeño, bell pepper, celery and some oregano. Excellent thick mouthfeel with some sweetness I cant identify. Some honey maybe? Finish: nice medium finish that leaves a taste of mint/lemon on the tongue. Nice warm coat on the throat, but not harsh at all. This review was for was lot 89. I had tried this before and enjoyed much more than i did this lot, but i dont remember what lot it was. Either way, its definitely one to always keep on hand.”

“Visual: clear, transparent, legs that fade quickly and leave many tears. Nose: Not too exciting on the nose. Agave, some pineapple and pear, dish soap(?), chamomile and oregano. Mouth: Almost no alcohol impact. A silky mouthfeel. I taste agave, pepper, broccoli, some mint, some butter and cabbage. Finish: the finish is nice and long. I taste some green apple at the end. Not harsh at all. I was actually expecting more from this tequila based on the ratings. It is a good tasting tequila, and very drinkable for a someone new to tequila like me, but It was not what I was expecting. It seemed somewhat bland.”

“Nice and clear, but not bright. Great long legs and tears. Nose: Had to let it breathe to identify clearly, but noticed agave, pepper, grass, some banana, coconut, oregano, some jalapeño. It was nice and oily in the mouth, with minimal alcohol numbness. Tasted agave, butter, vanilla, pepper, some pear, coconut, licorice, peppermint and a hint of mushroom. The finish is medium, with minimal heat and some mineral taste (brine?) at the end. It has excellent value at its price.”
