“This is a beautifully balanced barrel-select añejo that stays true to Tequila Ocho’s agave-first philosophy while letting the Old Fitzgerald bourbon barrel add depth rather than take over. On the nose, I get cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, and a touch of baking spice with a hint of dried fruit. The bourbon influence is noticeable but doesn’t overpower the tequila. The palate opens with sweet roasted agave before layers of butterscotch, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and light chocolate develop. The Old Fitzgerald barrel contributes a soft wheated bourbon character that adds richness without masking the distillery’s signature mineral and citrus notes. It’s elegant rather than overly oak-driven. The finish is medium-long with lingering oak, black pepper, caramel, and a pleasant agave sweetness that keeps you reaching for another sip.”
