Nose: Alcohol hits first, followed by cooked agave and a decent amount of pepper. There’s some mint and lime brightness layered in, along with vegetal notes and a hint of tropical fruit trying to break through. Palate & Mouthfeel: Full, slick mouthfeel with a noticeable heat - this one drinks hot and comes in alcohol-forward. Cooked agave is there, but it shares the stage with some funk, lime, and tropical fruit. There’s a raw vegetal edge, leather, floral tones, bell pepper, and plenty of black pepper. Finish: Leans peppery and floral, with the floral turning a bit bitter as it lingers. Final Thoughts: Not my favorite - alcohol dominates too much and throws things out of balance. Past that, the profile skews vegetal and bitter in a way that doesn’t quite land for me.

NOM 1614 | A great high proof blanco with loads of cooked agave. Loads of flavor coming from the 108 proof. There’s some heat but not a lot that does come on quickly on the palate. Nose: cooked agave, lime, vegetal, black pepper, minerals, and brine. Palate: carries over from the nose with cooked agave, black pepper, lime, vegetal, minerals, and brine. The finish is medium. A great high proof coming from a great brand.

Nose: Lime, Vegetal, Mint, Grass, Anise, Agave, Minerality, Thyme Mouthfeel: Light to light-medium bodied Palate: Earth, Minerality, Citrus, Cream Soda Finish: Agave, Lime, Minerality, Jalapeño, White Pepper. This is a very easy to drink, still strength. It had a lot of agave and a little bit of a a burn to it and was noticeably more complex than the no. 7 or 9. blancos, this time coming through with more lime, mint and overall, minerality.

The bar didn't have this in the system, so they couldn't sell it. But they could GIVE me a taste... yay! Aromas of cooked agave, herbal, vegetal and alcohol at 108 proof. Flavor of cooked agave, black pepper, vegetal and alcohol. Medium-long finish.

NOM 1614 | Nose: agave / vegetal / pepper /earth / lactic funk / lime / herbs / Taste: cooked agave / pepper / cinnamon/ earth / minerals/ banana/ apple / bitter orange peel / brine Finish: super crisp clean filtered water feel and taste / no viscous mouthfeel only wet clean / lingering alcohol burn (to be expected with high abv expressions / a tiny bitterness at final dissipationfrom Palate. This is a good, tasty, well made still strength. The lactic funk takes points off for me, but I know some people go for it and others like me, tolerate it. The earthy notes are a little heavy, but the taste and overall finish makeup for the very few shortcomings.

Like No. 7, this still strength has an intense citrus forward palate. Ripe grapefruit, orange, lime notes and hearty agave.

NOM 1614 | I was a little nervous to try this one. My only experience with Cazcanes was no. 7 and I did not like it at all. It had a burnt rubber smell and taste I am happy to say that this no. 10 was much better. It had a beautiful nose of cooked agave, anise and citrus. Minerals and brine are present and it is a little on the vegetal side. Taste was a nice sweet agave with a hint of lime and black pepper. It has citrus notes and a butter finish on the tongue. There is still just a hint of rubber but not so much that it is off putting. They have done a good job with the high ABV as this is very approachable.

NOM 1614 | Lightning in a bottle! This has an amplified sweetness from the concentration of agave sugars, it’s hot and sweet. This is a perfect fit for making high end cocktails, it could stand up to most ingredients and shine.

NOM 1599 | Stronger malolactic smell, brine, red crushed chili. Sweet agave flavor immediately. Higher proof very evident. What I like in a high proof. I will definitely enjoy this bottle.

NOM 1614 | The first batch of Blanco #10 out of TTap NOM 1614. Invest the time to let this one open up. Nose: At 54% ABV, I was braced for a slap of ethanol. But instead was greeted with warm and gentle sensations. Sweet and aromatic. In your face cooked agave. Floral, spicy and slightly tropical. Vanilla and green banana. Zest of lemon and lime. Cinnamon, trace nutmeg, anise, a quick grind of white pepper and a pop of minerals. Flavor: Robust pepper and viscous full bodied agave sweetness cling to the tongue and palate. Velvet like. Buttery. Salted caramel. Marzipan, vanilla, anise, a touch of brine. An undercurrent of tropical and dried fruits. This is a well crafted tequila.

NOM 1599 | On the nose, agave, grassy funk. Definitely some citrus, lime, orange rind. On the palate, full bodied cooked agave, that sweet potato-esque note, and some interesting salinity. Definitely some noticeable heat, I love high proofs but this is definitely a punchy one. Definitely a little vegetal and bitter on the finish. I’m going to be honest, this is a disappointment after the joven. The batch 1 joven was absolutely astonishing and this one is definitely a let down for me. As much as it surprises me to say this, I want to try the 80 proof because I don’t think the higher proof is doing this any favors. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but not $99 good.

NOM 1599 | Tasting Review for Cazcanes Blanco No. 10 Aroma: Enjoyed the entrance of this expression, roasted agave, buttery and caramelized sweetness, lime zest/citrus potency, and white pepper/aniseed nuances. The aroma personality on this one is very complex and inviting. Taste: Heavy cooked agave that just coats your mouth instantly with a buttery texture while showcasing a crisp framework. The heat you will receive from this blanco is with a punch of flavor and alcohol intensity is minimal. Another thing you will be able to perceive its some minerality, that comes from their water source. The finish will have some astringency, not bad as is something I enjoy from time to time. Aftertaste is very rich and leaves a harmonious lingering agave flavor. Price: $100

Finish: is long with white pepper spice, a nice sweetness shows up, just a touch of bitterness. This is a well balanced tequila
