On the nose: Beautiful sweet cooked agave, green vegetables, strong cinnamon, mint, almost banana like sweetness, On the pallet: Cooked agave, cinnamon, mint, vegital, Notes: Overall, this is in perfect lineup with the 2013 and 2018 cosecha releases. I would say it’s the most refined of the three. It’s really well balanced, it truly showcases these gorgeous agaves. Well worth the $90 I paid for it. Masterful tequila making.
On the nose, agave, pencil shavings, brine, earthy, herbal complexity on the nose. Lemon grass and pepper On the palate, sweet agave, light alcohol, earthy, pepper, herbal, this is excellent. The finish is awesome. I absolutely love this.
Only had a sample so need to revisit with a pour but very herbal on the nose. Heat on the palate is nice. I prefer 2013
This is another amazing release, number 3 in the series, agave forward, so delicious
Aroma: 23/25 A thick and pungent nose with obvious depth and complexity. Starts off very herbal with hints of asparagus and green bell pepper. A savory and salty characteristic then starts to emerge. True agave elements really start to punch out the more it has had time to open up. A bit too savory for my palate which knocked it down. Palate: 29/30 Luscious and thick mouth feel. Silky, syrupy texture. Juicy Lemon at the front palate. Charred agave, savory and salt comes through in the mid. Green Herbaceous notes with a slight earthy hay at the end. Finish: 24/25 The finish goes on for days. I can still taste the pour several minutes after taking a sip. Warming on the sides of my tongue, and even seems to heat up my body as well. I find myself feeling hotter and hotter the more I sip. Value: 7/10 $99 in San Francisco. Expensive for a blanco, but not crazy given that it is rested for 5 years in stainless steel before bottling. Quality stands up to the Price tag
Big fan of the Cosecha releases. This release is so different. I feel like the flavors pop in the finish and linger in the palate vs. 2018 & 2013 where the flavors popped in the front. I’m not surprised that I don’t love it! It’s a bit pricey but for me I would rather spend a little more for an exceptional blanco. Aromas: lemongrass, rosemary, dill, brine, green olives, black pepper Flavor: savory notes, tobacco, black pepper undertones, (not as much brine as I picked up in the aromas) More saline and savory on the palate, with a lot of cooked agave that lingers into the finish. It also coats the mouth with a viscous oiliness. Finish: long finish with black pepper, tobacco, savory notes, lingering green olive, cooked agave, and creamy tropical fruit notes.
Bottle: HBE 0626, 33FSBTA25 Appearance: Clear Initial thoughts… Nose: Cooked agave, citrus, flowers Palate: Orchard fruits, baking spice, minerality Finish: Black pepper, vegetal, brine/salinity Final review pending…
Fuenteseca cosecha 2020 Sample from Matt Cavanaugh Agave Swappers Nose: citrus/orange mint hay minerality mild funk (toned down from 2018) even some grass and brine! It keeps evolving! Palate: agave citrus cinnamon pepper This is my favorite of the fuenteseca expressions
Love this! My favorite of the Cosechas and a candidate for blanco release of the year. Aroma: tart fruit, Brine, black pepper, Flavor: Cooked agave, lots of black pepper, cinnamon, earthy and gravely. Oily in the mouth with a peppery finish that delivers every bit of the 45.7% ABV. It’s actually worth the $115 I paid.
Aroma: Cooked agave, pepper, minerality, cinnamon, floral, and a hint of citrus. Flavor: Sweet cooked agave, cinnamon, minerality, butter, citrus, honey, and a subtle peppery note. This blanco is incredibly complex and gets even better with each sip. They absolutely crushed it with this bottle!
Aroma - I was expecting a lot of agave but this is next level. Cooked agave, asparagus, bell pepper, crushed red pepper, minerality, sweet cooked agave, cinnamon, nutmeg, floral, with a hint of orange zest. I don’t know how so much is packed into the aroma but this is so complex. Flavor - sweet cooked agave, cinnamon, minerality, asparagus, orange zest, pop of lemon, honey, crushed red pepper, it’s such a good combination of savory and sweet. Each sip give me more cooked agave. The texture is so viscous and thick. At 45.7% you get a nice warmth but there’s very little burn. This bottle is retailing for $110 and even though it’s incredible that is one of the most expensive blancos on the market and for that it’s not getting the highest marks if we were to just rate on merit if the liquid. Nevertheless this is an exceptional blanco and everything you look for in a well crafted tequila.
I loved the 2013 version (super heavy cinnamon), and the 2018 version (some cinnamon with black pepper), but this 2020 is the best of them all. I'm blown away. This is a super complex special treat that contains absolutely everything I love about a tequila agave spirit. Cinnamon, earth, black pepper, cooked agave, gentle funky lactic roundness, licorice, grass, olive, brine, all wrapped up in a long happy finish. It's got a thick mouthfeel that so elegantly and respectfully sits on your tongue. I don't know what kind of deal with the devil was struck by Enrique Fonseca to make this, or maybe he's an alien and he is tapping into powers we don't yet comprehend, but it's absolutely incredible. One of the best ever.
This 2020 is seriously delicious. The 2013 is one of the GOATs, 2018 was incredible, and I think I’d put the 2020 just above 2018, but this isn’t meant to be compared to others, it’s meant to be celebrated for what it is on its own and on its own, it’s an amazing blanco. Grab some of these bottles and enjoy.
Glass: Glencairn Nose: Lime, minerality, pepper, earth, olive, hay, grass, salt Palate: Fruity, herbal, pepper, limestone Finish: Herbal, minerality, citrus, brine, faint cinnamon In done ways, this release echoes the 2018 edition, but it’s evolved and made it's own way with Valley agaves this time. The lactic note has toned down significantly, and cinnamon takes a step back. In contrast, the minerality is a bit more pronounced, as is the citrus. The herbal notes remain steady, but overall, this version leans more into those crisp mineral and citrus touches.
Aroma - agave, lemon, bitter green bell pepper, tangy horseradish. Maybe a tart green apple. Taste - light and sweet agave at first. Then a pop of a tangy citrus pepper. Cinnamon. Finish - all the tangy flavors hang around. Goes to a bitter cinnamon, and It fades to a light honey. This is a very unique tequila. It’s very complex with a mix of sweet and tangy. Though it leans more towards the bitter and tangy rather than sweet. While I like it, I don’t love it. It’s not my preferred flavors. It’s a nice change of pace but the price knocks it down for me, and since it’s not my preferred flavor profile, I wouldn’t buy it again.
Very strong agave aroma. Very strong agave flavor. Lots of minerality, spice and some heat. A very nice smooth and peppery finish.
Tasted this side by side with the 2018. The 2020 is the best blanco I’ve had. What few roughly edges exist in the 2018 are gone. Grassy and herbaceous on the nose. Palate is sweet and luscious, coating the mouth.Heat is very mild. Fills the mouth like a warm hug. The finish is long and mellow. Incredibly balanced and drinkable.
Bottle 1087. First fuenteseca product I’ve tried, Blanco or otherwise. To be honest with you I had very high expectations due to the scores and word of mouth but unfortunately they fell a little short. Don’t get me wrong, this is a quality tequila, and it has gotten slightly more interesting as the bottle has gotten emptier, but I can’t say it’s as good to me as average score on here for this expression. I found it very cinnamon heavy which is totally fine and even enjoyable for a blanco but I didn’t find to many other notes as the cinnamon kind of dominates the palette with only a little butter coming through when the bottle became almost empty. Some other baking spice and yeasty notes persist as well. Solid semi spicy finish that’s smooth on the throat but warm in the chest. Agave throughout for sure, but considering the $90 price tag I expected a little more complexity . To me I feel like el Alteo’s blanco has a very similar profile for a fraction of the price. I’ m certainly open to trying any other fuentseca products as this is certainly well made and easy to sip; it’s just not goated like I thought it could be.
High-Proof Blanco Showcase – Opening Thoughts Tonight’s flight is all about pushing the boundaries of what a blanco can be. On the table are five expressions that each take a different path to showcasing agave—whether through higher proof, unique fermentation, extended resting, or singular terroir. Rather than searching for the biggest proof or the boldest flavors, I’m looking for the tequila that best balances intensity with elegance while still letting the agave remain the star. Tonight’s lineup: Siempre Exclusivo Vivo Cazcanes Nuestras Raices Fuenteseca Cosecha 2018 Fuenteseca Cosecha 2020 Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Añejo 7 Year (the grand finale) As always, I’ll be evaluating each pour on its own merits before comparing them side by side. I’m looking for the aromas that pull me in, the texture that coats the palate, the complexity that develops with each sip, and the finish that keeps me reaching for another taste. By the end of the night, I hope to answer one simple question: Which of these bottles truly tells the most compelling agave story? Cheers! Let’s see where this flight takes us. Fuenteseca Cosecha 2020 The nose opens with wet concrete minerality, fermentation, and cooked agave sweetness, followed by warming notes of cinnamon and pepper. It immediately presents itself as bold and expressive while remaining inviting. On the palate, the texture is thick and slippery, coating the tongue with layers of cooked agave sweetness, pepper, cinnamon, and baking spice. Fermentation remains present throughout, while the higher proof creates a pleasant tingling sensation and a slight drying effect without becoming overpowering. The finish is long and warming, carrying the pepper, cinnamon, and fermentation notes well into the next sip. The lingering warmth and persistent agave character create a satisfying conclusion that encourages another taste. A bold and beautifully structured tequila that showcases remarkable agave sweetness and minerality. While slightly less refined than the 2018 to my palate, it remains an outstanding expression with exceptional depth and character. Score: 92/100
This 2020 must sit in your glass and open up. If you have a neck pour, let it rest for an hour at least. I have the 2018 Cosecha and the 2020 is way beyond it. The agave nose and palette are there and in control with a much smaller lactic funk influence. The 2018 funk over powers the agave. I've put it against my best high proofs and it holds up very well. Not the top tier but very close. Price certainly comes into play with this as well...a bit high compared to others such as the budget Zumbador HP which beats this handily.
This is a required tequila for your home selection. Agave, citrus, orange peel, cinnamon and a long lasting oily finish. I would put this in my top ten blancos and will definitely purchase this bottle again.
Has a jalapeño honey pepper thing with some florals. Very honey forward. Finish ends with some bitters' notes of arugula and cacao. Drinks easy for the proof. Very faint hint of the 1146 funk after more pours.
Just fabulous! A Blanco like no other. Recommend letting your pour sit for 10 mins to enhance the tasting experience. Finish has a nice dose of cinnamon and agave love. Highly recommend regardless of price.
My friend Reid gave me a sample of this, and it was one of the best glasses of tequila I’ve ever had.
Grover was a judge in the 2026 Agavos Awards. These are the top ten in the blanco category. There are a few surprises here!

Very well made blanco but not my cup of tea flavor-wise. Had it side by side with the 2018 blanco in glencairns. Was really hoping to love it considering the reviews but not a fan of either of them.
