Socorro Tequila Añejo
“The aroma is very dry with a lot of oak and leather. I also get a dried cherry and peach. I like the aroma a lot. It does lose most of the agave but it smells nice and somewhat unique. Flavor is very heavy on the oak. There is a hint of an agave/honey like sweetness and I do get some tart dried fruit. The finish is a tad bitter and lingers a while but it’s good. The value really pumps the score up as this is about a $40 bottle. Hard to beat that price on an Añejo but it’s a good bottle and something I think a lot of folks newer to tequila especially from whiskey would enjoy. ”

Socorro Tequila Blanco
“Aroma is a little hot out the gate with ethanol but once you get passed that there’s a nice cooked agave sweetness, some earth and minerality, followed by a hint of citrus and floral aromas. As it opens up there’s also a bit of a creamy note as well. Flavor is on the simple side but that’s to be expected for what I would consider a budget brand. I do get some cooked agave, a sweet cream, and a nice orange blossom honey type of flavor. It’s subtle but good and also open up the more I drink it. For around $30 I could see this being a nice introduction to someone newer to tequila and I could also see this mixing well in a cocktail. Doesn’t blow you away but hits all the marks for a bottle that could live on your bar and be pulled out for any occasion. ”

Tequila Rimari Blanco
“Aroma is very unusual on this one in a good way. Very earthy and mesquite. Not Smokey but reminds me of a bbq. Kind of reminds me of the bark on a really good piece of meat. There’s a Smokey element but also a sweet glaze element. Really interested by this one. Green vegetal as well and a hint of agave. Flavor is less complex than the aroma. Green vegetal comes through. There’s a soft sweetness like yam. Not the most complex flavor considering how different the aroma was but good. Finish is short but there’s a medium viscosity which is nice. ”

There’s a hint of citrus and cinnamon as well and it all comes together for a nice rustic and still somehow refined aroma. There’s flavor is a continuation of the aroma with its green notes of artichoke and asparagus. Citrus and cinnamon come through nicely. I get a chili pepper type of heat that I find really enjoyable as well and the earthy, mineral notes are complimented by a creamy texture. This bottle is so easy to drink at 48% abv. I don’t know if batch 2 is better than batch 1 but it’s certainly more refined while still maintaining the same finger print. ”

The Lost Explorer Blanco
“Aroma is very bright and citrus forward with minerality, cooked agave, chili pepper, cardamom, and a hint of almond. Flavor is also very bright but more on the earthy mineral side. It’s a dry dusty earthy quality along with some lemon zest. There’s a slight vegetal quality as well that lingers a touch. This is a really nice supper. Easy to drink. Almost no burn. I could also see it being very nice in a cocktail. ”

Casa Azul Organic Tequila Blanco
“Aroma is cooked and raw agave, black pepper, lime citrus, vegetal green notes from the raw agave. Flavor is cooked agave, honey, citrus, minerality, vegetal notes like asparagus. I think this is a solid blanco option and a bottle that can really bridge the gap for people coming over to better quality tequila from mass produced brands. I also like that all the flavors are very present but it doesn’t overwhelm the senses which jus furthers the idea that this is a great bottle for folks looking to try some good stuff and have a nice looking bottle on the bar at home. ”
More info →“Aroma - I was expecting a lot of agave but this is next level. Cooked agave, asparagus, bell pepper, crushed red pepper, minerality, sweet cooked agave, cinnamon, nutmeg, floral, with a hint of orange zest. I don’t know how so much is packed into the aroma but this is so complex. Flavor - sweet cooked agave, cinnamon, minerality, asparagus, orange zest, pop of lemon, honey, crushed red pepper, it’s such a good combination of savory and sweet. Each sip give me more cooked agave. The texture is so viscous and thick. At 45.7% you get a nice warmth but there’s very little burn. This bottle is retailing for $110 and even though it’s incredible that is one of the most expensive blancos on the market and for that it’s not getting the highest marks if we were to just rate on merit if the liquid. Nevertheless this is an exceptional blanco and everything you look for in a well crafted tequila. ”

Tequila Rimari Reposado
“Aroma is very crisp with good amounts of citrus, cinnamon, and a hint of oak and a floral element. Flavor is very similar to the aroma with bright citrus, barrel spice like cinnamon, some cardamom, and of course oak. There’s also a little bit of a honey sweetness. This wasn’t overly complex but it was a very enjoyable pour and I think would be great as an introduction to tequila. ”

Flavor: Cooked agave and vanilla bean, orange zest, cinnamon, oak, and a touch of peppermint. Texture & Finish: Full-bodied at 44% ABV with almost no burn. The finish is long and balanced. To our knowledge, this is the first tequila aged in an ex-cherry bitters barrel. The cherry comes through as dried fruit. It’s present but not dominant and compliments the vanilla, cinnamon, and oak without overpowering the agave character.”

Cazcanes No. 7 Rosa Añejo
“I loved this Rosa and it might be my favorite of all the Cazcanes Rosa releases. The wine influence along with the four roses bourbon really compliment each other well. It’s one of those dangerous bottles that you could end up finishing really quick if you aren’t careful! I love all the stone fruit and barrel influence along with the agave still coming though. Peach and apricot really stood out to me while also having a nice touch of minerality. There was also some chocolate bitterness and earthiness. It’s a melting pot of flavors that work so well together. ”

“Aroma is full of raw and cooked agave, black pepper, minerality/salinity, dry earth, orange, a hint of sweet cream, and cinnamon Flavor is a little more tame than the aroma but I get a good amount of earth, minerality, black pepper, raw agave, with hints of cooked agave and kiwi Finish lingers briefly and the texture is softer on the watery side. Drinks really easy. This is a good sipper or would probably go great in a nice cocktail. ”

“The aroma is very expressive with cooked agave, sage, lavender, citrus, honey, and herbal notes Flavor has some barrel influence of cinnamon and vanilla with a lot of cooked agave, earth, minerality, and herbal notes. It doesn’t drink hot at 104 proof but you know the alcohol is there. Really good bottle. $100 is fair but on the higher side. ”

“Aroma: Orange citrus, vanilla, sweet cream, minerality, oak, something that reminds me of sourdough toast with butter on it which is a new one haha, hints of honey Flavor: citrus, honey, oak, cooked agave, floral, minerality, black pepper, cereal. Finish is soft with a gentle heat. The aroma is amazing and there is a ton of different flavors that all seem to work very well together. ”
