“What a wonderful expression of Patron tequila añejo! One of the most sip-able of sipping tequilas I’ve had. It makes a great aperitif/digestif and Pairs wonderfully with an aged cigar. It reminds me of The Macallan 12 Sherry Oak Cask, not exactly what I would expect of a tequila. The aroma I get a creamy sherry wine and cooked agave aroma with a light nutty note. The palate I get a nuttiness and a creamy fruity sherry (almost a sherry bomb) with sweet cooked agave and a luscious, creamy mouthfeel. I do pick up caramel and baking spice along with very little oak. The finish is medium to long with more cream sherry and nutty flavors. Although the tequila may be a bit overdone in the Oloroso sherry cask, (a sign that quality casks were used) the agave is always present and perfectly layered throughout from beginning to end. I found this online at theliquorbook.com for $75”

Cascahuín Extra Añejo
“If you like sweet, caramel-vanilla añejos, I recommend you try this. After a few sips, it became almost unbearably cloying with an artificial-like sweetener taste setting in. Flavorful caramel, vanilla and agave. Nice mouthfeel, smoother than others, great after dinner sipper.”

El Tesoro Extra Añejo
“Well made tequila. For me, the smell is the best part. Flavorful but too much briny-sweet and salty caramel and vanilla notes. Not a lot of age or agave coming through. It’s a briny, sweet and salty, hot, peppery mess. Shots only, Not a sipping añejo tequila.”

Fortaleza Añejo
“Lote: 55A, Lots of tannins from what tastes like overly reused casks coming through, probably more re-re-reused casks in this lot. I get the fantastic signature aromas and flavors as excepted but… I get drying bitter tannins (bitter wet wood smell and taste) coming through at the beginning and lasting through the very end of the finish from what I expect are from excessively reused casks and is a bit off putting.”

Fortaleza Reposado
“Some releases are better than others but It’s a fantastic reposado tequila that’s for sure. At first it was cinnamon, agave on the nose with a hint of lime. The taste… honey, agave, cinnamon, vanilla and citrusy sweetness along with light barrel, hint of smoke and maybe some earthy minerals; all followed with prickly pepper and warm baking spices. From the nose to the finish, there is a bourbon oak note and agave is very prominently present throughout. I pick up on an unfiltered tap water or garden hose water aftertaste that can be off putting but I get over it quickly. This is hands down my go to repo or overall tequila for shots/neat drinking. Great as an aperitif. Great value, Best bang for the buck Repo! Lotes: 79, 86R, 91R,…”

1800 Añejo
“I like it but, I also enjoy whiskey so… this really reminds me of a cheap but okay bourbon whiskey. It’s very whiskey like and after I few sips, I think I’m drinking a whiskey.”

Patrón Extra Añejo 5 Años
“A well balanced and perfectly aged añejo. Elegant, refined, sophisticated with unique and rich flavors of cooked agave, vanilla and caramel on the nose. Harmonious agave and bourbon barrel flavors and spice notes on the palate. I do pick up the toasted oak and vanilla caramel with some spice, orange and raisins. The finish is long and smooth. The natural subtle agave sweetness balances out at the end revealing a hint more of bourbon barrel wood spice, toasted oak and cooked agave. Overall, this tastes like a fine, well crafted, perfectly aged masterpiece. At $180 it may seem a bit overpriced for the value but when compared to other pricy añejos, I think it’s a really good value. Luckily I found one at Third Base Market and Spirits.”

Gran Dovejo Blanco High Proof
“(Lot P13, bottle# 327) The high proof really delivers this tequila from start to finish but a bit to hot for my taste. Lots of sweet agave, great mouthfeel, and thrilling finish. Best as shooter with line and salt. Overpowering alcohol taste in cocktails. For $45 bucks, not a bad value.”
