“This is my second private barrel reposado from Lost Lore. And it is by far my favorite so far. That’s saying a lot as I love their regular repo. I don’t know the facts about their aging, but this one is borderline Anejo. For me, I prefer reposados because they tend to retain more of the agave qualities vs barrel qualities. But this barrel brought out the best of both worlds. On the nose it’s very agave forward. But that changes immediately when it hits my mouth. Spice, vanilla, nice light oak. Wow! Goes down so silky smooth like velvet and gives me a long lasting reminder that I just drank a great quality product from Lost Lore. ”

Zumbador Blanco High Proof
“Straight up fire water! I cracked the bottle, poured, and drank. Maybe a better idea to let it breathe a bit. Heavy alcohol both on the nose and in Boca. But it does have interesting and complex notes of pepper, minerality and cooked agave. I will re-rate after letting the bottle open up. Great value as are all Zumbador expressions. I’m excited to use this high proof in my wife’s margaritas so she will let her hair down as a food tequila should. ”

Sooo smooth. Some spice and pepper. But I just keep going back to agave forward and balanced. Great value. ”

Terralta Tequila Blanco
“I just love this type of blanco. Super vegetal. Lots of minerality. Clean cooked agave. Beautiful notes of pepper and spice. This is my kinda tequila. Smooth, balanced and clean. ”

Siete Leguas Reposado
“A nice, light, smooth reposado. To me it’s a quality blanco with just a touch of barrel aging. And that works for me. Some reposados take on too much barrel character. Very easy on the nose. Just a slight spice and vanilla note. This quality perseveres on the mouth. Agave dominant with some floral, spice and vanilla. Yup…I like it! ”
More info →“All the chatter, difficulty to find price gave me high expectations. It does not live up to those hopes. The lower rating is due to economic considerations. Don’t get me wrong, if it had not been for the hype and price, this would rank considerably better. As an overproof should, it has a heavy agave punch. As do many highlands tequilas, that earthy vegetal quality comes in next. Some pepper notes in my mouth and a smooth warm burn going down. We all know this is a well crafted tequila from a fan favorite NOM. ”

Lost Lore Tequila Blanco
“This is my kind of blanco. I love that green earthiness that comes from the water source. Beautiful agave notes. Light and floral. A perfect blanco for a great price. ”

Cascahuín Reposado - Private Barrel
“This repo packs some heat. Lots of oak and spice on the snazer. It is a beautiful tequila but only if you appreciate a heavily influenced by the barrel tequila. Super balanced. Lots of layers. But…a bite of oak and spice ”

Zumbador Tequila Reposado
“What a fun new tequila. Nothing too exciting on the nose. The fragrance hides itself but I pick up on some nice pepper and floral notes. This reposado hits its mark as soon as it crosses my taste buds. Very nice. Agave forward. Light oak notes. Some more spice, citrus and floral notes. And what a bargain for a quality produced tequila. Zumbador translates to “buzzed” in Google translate…why I think I will. ”

Alma del Jaguar Nocturna Blanco
“Green and vegetal on the nose. Lots of pepper, spice and minerality on the tongue. It’s got that nice high proof burn. A good high proof tequila but not good enough for me to buy it again. The value is just not there compared to other high proof tequilas as lower price point. ”

Trujillo Manifiesto 56
“I’m happy that I bought this tequila. Trujillo is new to me. So it’s got a kick to it. Vegetal on both the nose and taste. The flavor that comes after the cooked agave is best described as olive brine to me. Very nice. Slow burn. High quality. Dangerous :)”
More info →“You just gotta love a reposado with a high proof (46 proof) punch. Not just any reposado. Lagrimas produces some of my favorite profile characters with sweet vanilla and mild oak notes. Still agave forward but with complexities that make me enjoy this sipper so much. ”

El Ateo Añejo Ultra Premium
“Another nice expression from El Ateno. They start with a quality blanco and age it in oak to give it some spice and pepper. The viscosity is a bit light so may have been diluted/cut after distillation. I’m not a huge Anejo fan but this does fit the mold for a quality Anejo and a very good price. ”

Alma del Jaguar Tequila Reposado
“Happy to delve into Alma del Jaguar for the first time. Their reposado is a high quality tequila. Nicely balanced between cooked agave and barrel notes. The oak and pepper flavors are predominant in my mouth. On the nose there are very nice hints of vanilla, cinnamon and floral essence. Well done NOM1414 and Sergio. ”

Tequila G4 Extra Añejo
“From the master distiller, Camarena, comes this excellent Extra Anejo. G4 puts out a unique product in that most EAs start to take on too much oak qualities. Not this EA. It’s is light, floral, citrus and spice. Almost more like a reposado but with many additional layers of interest and depth. I dig it for an extra anejo. ”

El Ateo Reposado Ultra Premium
“OK…my new favorite brand for 2024? On the nose there are sweet oak, pear, pepper and agave notes. A smooth and balanced flavor with some spice, oak and floral characteristics. Warming and smooth swallow. Just a perfectly balanced reposado. What a bargain. ”

Volans Still Strength Blanco
“Wowsah…we got a real alcohol bomb here. The high proof dominates here. But it does seem to “hide” the agave notes as a trade off. Lots of spice and pepper when you finally decide to let it down your throat. I love Blancos and love high proof & still strength but this one might be a bit too much to love it more than an 88. ”

Tequila G4 Blanco Madera (Lot 03)
“Sweet agave nectar of the gods. Enuf said. ”
More info →“Ah crap...you can't win em all. This high proof does nothing for me. The agave profile is lost. I think they may have thrown a shovel of dirt or donkey shit in the fermentation process. Tons of anaise (sp) and some other odd flavors. I'll pass this one along to my college age son. ”

Ocho Tequila Reposado
“What an interesting reposado. It's super refreshing with a strong citrus influence both on the nose and palate. Nice agave notes and very light oak influence. I have always loved all Ocho products and this is a perfectly balanced and tropical reposado. ”

Tequila El Mexicano Blanco
“Love El Mexicano. It's a bit mellow on the nose. Some cooked agave but not very obvious or complex. This changes once it hit my mouth though. Vegetal. High minerality. Pepper and spice. Such a great viscous after taste. And did I mention what a bargain it is? ”

Alma del Jaguar Tequila Blanco
“With all the hype, I was a little bit let down. There is not much going on in the nose department. Flavor is a different story but maybe too rich on the pepper side. That does result in a nice finish. Overall not very complex for a quality blanco. Wishing for the Nocturna high proof. ”

Terralta Tequila Reposado
“A very interesting reposado. It has the vegetal, fresh cut grass qualities low lands agaves and the minerality and black pepper qualities of high lands agaves. Just the right amount of oak and barrel notes to make it interesting. Subtle complexities will make me buy this reposado again. ”
