“Agave and citrus on the nose with a hint of pepper. The mouthfeel is light—not particularly oily. Goes down mighty smooth and emits a gentle burn. Some floral notes on the palate, but mostly agave and a touch of orange peel. I feel like I’ve had better blanco experiences with Fortaleza, but this is still some damn good stuff.”

“Obviously plenty of agave on the nose, but I’m also getting some grassy notes with licorice and cinnamon. Fantastic pepper and minerality on the palate. The agave continues, but so does the cinnamon which blends perfectly with all the flavors. A little smokey too. Wonderful burn on the finish. Nobody does it like Fortaleza.”

“Agave and pepper on the nose with a little anise as well. Perhaps a little grass, but only a touch. Honestly, I’m surprised by how gentle it is on the nostrils. But whoa, what a mouthfeel! A little oily and rather mild at first, but it gives way to a deep agave and citrus flavor with a warm burn that gently spreads. Hard to believe this is an overproof given how easy it’s going down. Wonderful finish that keeps the agave flavor intact. Excellent bottle that I’m still pumped I was able to find on the shelf here in NY!”

“Agave on the nose, but with hints of citrus and butter. Light mouthfeel, but ohhhhhhhhh buddy that flavor is incredible. Agave (of course) and pepper that gives way to an oaky minerality with a lovely burn. Way more smoke than I expected, but it never drowns out the other flavors. Great, lingering finish as well. Solid, solid juice!”

“Agave and pepper right off the bat, but a vegetal funk sneaks in on the nose. Light mouthfeel, but bold Flavors. Agave, dried fruit, some earthiness and a touch of butterscotch. It lingers on the palate as a pleasant burn runs down your throat. Not sure where this ranks among the other 1579 brands, but it’s certainly a welcome addition.”

“Agave with earthy notes on the nose. Some cinnamon and oak with perhaps a touch of anise? Some butterscotch too, which is super interesting. Very light mouthfeel with some agave on the palate, but more cinnamon and pepper than anything else. Not overly sweet, but I wish it had more earthy elements. I admit that’s just my preference and not a complaint about this tequila’s quality (which is high). I’m curious to see how this bottle opens up, so let’s just assume this 86 rating is tentative, okay?”

“Strong agave on the nose, and I mean STRONG. But wow, is it inviting. Bold agave and pepper on the palate that goes down unbelievably smooth. The finish lingers but never burns. Just a complete agave bomb. Outstanding juice.”

“Agave with cinnamon notes on the nose. Some grass in there too, which caught me off guard. The palate is gentle—more cinnamon with some vanilla in there. Mild finish. Pretty tasty repo.”

“Cooked agave on the nose. Some citrus too with a hint of vegetal aromas. Wonderful mouthfeel with an agave-forward flavor. Earthy minerality throughout with a wonderful burn on the backend. The finish lingers with an orange peel/agave/earthy mix. I’m curious to see how my bottle opens up, but we’re off to a damn good start.”

“Finally snagged the updated bottle. New branding is gorgeous! Okay, time to get serious. Strong agave notes on the nose. Earthy aromas as well with a touch of citrus and vegetal elements. Oily mouthfeel with an agave bomb on the palate. A touch of dried fruit (perhaps pomegranate?), but mostly agave and minerality. The finish has a nice long burn with earthy notes throughout. Happy to report that the rebrand has not changed this juice one bit. Long live Tequila Ocho!”

“Oak and vanilla on the nose, but the vanilla is the main aroma. Licorice and cinnamon on the palate that lingers on the finish. There’s a burn here, but not a particularly enjoyable one. You’re better off with a different anejo.”

“Oak and a little agave on the nose. Light mouthfeel with caramel and oak flavor. Very smooth, hardly any burn. Not my favorite repo, but pretty decent all around.”

“Floral sweetness on the nose. Light mouthfeel that opens up to a vanilla-forward flavor. No burn at all, but also no agave. Similar finish that feels artificial. A decent Casamigos alternative, but you’re still operating in a less than ideal place.”

“Agave and alcohol on the nose. A little sweetness, but it smells artificial. Very light mouthfeel, but the agave pops through. Smooth going down with a little vanilla on the finish, which is actually quite enjoyable. Decent blanco.”

“Vegetal notes on the nose. Some agave, some pepper, a touch of vanilla and oak. Light mouthfeel with a little burn. Sweetness on the palate, but it tastes natural. Vanilla mostly, but some agave and pepper sneak in. Very smooth all around. Pretty good, especially at $42 per bottle. Excited to see how it opens up.”

“Deftones branded bottle! A lot of cherry and oak on the nose with floral notes mixed in. Some licorice as well. Definitely sweet, but not overpoweringly so. Light mouthfeel. A good warmth going down. More of that cherry on the palate, but with a hint of chocolate. Decent finish. A little overpriced, but not a bad dessert tequila.”

“Lots of agave and pepper on the nose, but there’s an alcohol scent that flows throughout. Super citrusy palate with agave coming through and a touch of minerality. Pepper on the finish, but doesn’t last for very long. Not my favorite, but still solid juice.”

“An interesting combination of dried fruit and vegetal notes in the nose. Some minerality is sneaking in, but mainly that fruity and vegetal goodness. Lighter mouthfeel with agave on the palate, but soon that pepper kicks in and leads into a fantastic finish. Agave bomb with some orange peel. Super smooth, super delicious. ”

“Strong agave aroma. I’m getting some minerality along with hints of grass as well. Perhaps a touch of citrus, but the green is winning out. Fantastic flavor with that first sip. Agave and minerality, all day long. And wow, is this baby is smoooooooooth. Even on the lingering finish, I’m getting those wonderful agave flavors. A touch of pepper too, but it blends well and never overpowers. Sure, it’s a tad pricey up here in New York, but it’s an excellent expression from one of the best brands around. I say it’s worth the cost of admission.”

“A ton of agave and earthy notes on the nose—so much that you can almost smell how rich the soil is. Some citrus aromas too. Oily mouthfeel that gives ways to a fantastic flavor bomb: agave, citrus, minerality, a hint of butterscotch, a little brine and a touch of pepper. All of it lingers and morphs on the finish, which has a little heat but is so damn smooth. Simply outstanding tequila.”

“Sharp alcohol aroma. Some agave deep down, but that alcohol is overpowering. Fruity flavors on the palate with cherry winning out. I’m also getting some vanilla, but it’s certainly not natural. More medicinal than anything. Some heat at first, but it dissipates on the lackluster finish. Not even the low price point can save this “tequila.””

“Earthy agave on the nose. A touch of butterscotch with other vegetal aromas as well. Lighter mouthfeel, but there’s a slight buttery quality to it that opens up to delicious cooked agave. A touch of minerality, but mostly vanilla sweetness that’s followed with a nice cinnamon burn on the finish. Solid juice.”
