On the palate, that mineral character becomes even more pronounced, layered with a delicate honeyed sweetness and subtle florals. The champagne yeast is noticeable too, lending a distinctive brightness and complexity to the profile. I loved this one. It has enough character and nuance to enjoy on its own, while that crisp, mineral-forward profile would make it exceptional in a well-made cocktail.”

“Cazcanes Nuestra Raíces A raw, unfiltered Blue Weber agave spirit from Jalisco. Dark, rich, mesquite on the nose. It tastes like the well-used hearth at my grandparents’ house — smoky, earthy and deeply charred. The proof is too high for me, with a warmth that lingers long after the finish.”

“Aged 15–20 months. I’m generally not an añejo fan because whiskey barrels tend to overpower the agave. This surprised me. Cake batter on the nose, subtle vanilla sweetness, and most importantly, I could still taste the Blue Weber agave through the finish. Less whiskey, more tequila. ”

“Cazcanes Reposado Aged 8–10 months, the Cazcanes Reposado brings a little more depth and warmth while still letting the agave come through. On the nose, I get sweet cooked agave right away. The palate leans into vanilla, but importantly, it doesn’t taste artificial or overly sweetened. It tastes like the kind of vanilla character that belongs there — subtle, warm and integrated into the tequila rather than sitting on top of it. The finish is warm and smooth, with enough presence to make you want to slow down and actually enjoy it. This feels like a tequila I could easily sip alongside a meal in place of a glass of wine, which isn’t something I’d say about every reposado. I liked this one quite a bit. Did I fall in love with it? No. But it’s balanced, enjoyable and absolutely something I’d sip again. 7/10 ”
